Hi. I am making a perl/cgi blog script that I hope to come out as good as or better than wordpress (As a product not in popularity). I have been working on and off for a while and am just now getting really into it again. I want to know what features your ideal blog script would have. Don't just say, "wordpress is the best." Try to think of something they don't have. A will be selling the finished product and would also like to know how much is too much for a blog script. I am going towards $30 and don't want to go less than $20. Here are some features that I have come up with: 1. Nice default design 2. Very easy templating system 3. Add/Change/Delete themes via admin panel 4. SEO friendly (Can be son on or off) 5. Can have members (Can be disabled) 6. Member profiles 7. Login doesn't use cookies 8. If member is already logged in on another computer an email is sent to them telling them so and has a logout link (Can be set on or off in admin panel) 9. Can have staff / bloggers 10. Can limit staff / bloggers accessability 11. Pictures next to posts with pre-made mood images to fit default design 12. Comes with my Tell-A-Freind script integrated into the script for free ($15 value) 13. Topics 14. Archives for topics, by month, and for indevidual months 15. Custom welcome message (Shows on blog home page only and can be set not to show at all) 16. Easily edit blog roll via admin panel 17. Search function 18. RSS feeds 19. Add/Edit/Delete Custom pages 20. Semi automatic poster option 21. News and updates in admin panel 22. Uses MySQL database 23. Users can comment 24. Can set it to only allow members to comment 25. Comments use imageverification to reduce spam. I think there are more but I can't remember right now because it is 3am here. Please post any ideas for new features or comments below. Thanks.
Hi BSCDesign, Your product sounds pretty nice AFA features. However, me thinks you're trying to reinvent the wheel. You don't want the feedback "WP is best" but truly, IMNSHO, we don't need to replace WP. I've done some software development and I've realized, no matter how cool I felt an application was, if my customers didn't take to it, I was sunk. That's my guess as to where you're going to wind up. Did you research your market before deciding to develop this app? My guess is no, you did not. I'm not trying to be a jerk, just felt brutal honesty would help you the most. Just my $0.02 John
