I started writing an article about taking precautions needed for growing your Adsense income. I haven't finished writing it. It's called "The Pentagon of Progress". This means that it will mention 5 important points that will help you increase your AdSense revenue.

I already spent 2 hours writing it, and at this very moment, it is more of a "Duo of Progress", because I haven't finished describing the last 3 points.

Parts toward the end are least developed ones. But I wanted to post it here to see what anyone thinks.

The Pentagon of Progress or why working hard doesn't produce monumental AdSense earnings

Very often I hear advice that goes like this: “Content is king” and “Populate your website with great content, and your AdSense revenue will increase accordingly”. Aside that without providing the details of what it really means to “work smart” this statement sounds very silly, this optimistic advice usually comes from people who are not aware of The Pentagon of Progress.

If you feel like your hard work is not producing results you expect, it is a good time to reconsider the way you think about what you are doing. The Pentagon of Progress is a concept that I invented to make it easier for you to memorize the five practical ideas required for growing your AdSense revenue distributed throughout the content on your website.

    1. Knowing the audience of your content

When I start to write an article, the first question I ask is: Who am I writing for? I know the answer to this question before I even have to touch the keyboard to write my first sentence. This is because I do my research and try to understood the demands of my audience. Sometimes it is more obvious than other times, but this is the first thing I have to do.

For example, you are still reading this article because the title and the first three paragraphs had enough impression on you to keep you interested. Because the information related to you. To be specific, the title of this article promised you something. It promised you an answer and an understanding of why your are working so hard, and yet you had seen little in the way of increasing your AdSense revenue. I knew who you were before I wrote a single word. This creative writing tactic has a tremendous effect on increasing the reader's level of engagement.

Knowing your audience helps you accomplish so much, with just one article. It makes people want to return to your website at a later time. This is probably a good time to mention that you should value the reader's level of engagement above your AdSense CTR. If for any reason at all, it is because you want them to remember your website. And in order to do that, you must satisfy their demand for information. And perhaps you even want to surprise them with a little creative writing and make them think: “Now I have to find out who the author is”.

Understanding my audience gives me the ability to think about how I am going to come up with the answer to their questions. This is important, because you must really understand the answer to the question your audience asks. You do this by doing research. Okay, let's say that I know my audience and exactly what it wants. Does that mean I am ready to start writing? No. I can't just write my content. I must spend an appropriate amount of time to plan my content, and plan how I am going to answer the question that is specified in the title of the article as a “bait”. Like a song writer plans the lyrics to his or her song.

Make sure that the audience interested in the content of your website exists in places beyond your imagination.

    2. Place more importance on the content of your website and not on AdSense block position

Optimizing AdSense placement, is like optimizing solutions to a Rubik's cube. There are only so many ways of doing it, and most of them have already been discovered.

Don't shove your ads into reader's face and pretend that your content, that you spent so many hours, on does not matter. When you write with reader's engagement in mind, you must make sure that visitors read your content.

Imagine how annoying it would be if printed books had ads in them. People buy books because they want to acquire new knowledge. And perhaps it is because that they feel that they cannot get the same type of content quality from the Internet. Make your content read like a book. Really spend the time on it. Once you make sure that your content is high-quality, well written, and is targeted at a certain, existing audience, that page will remain on the Internet for countless visitors to read. And you won't have to worry about being terminated from the AdSense program. In the domain of content-based websites, people search the Internet for information for the same reason as they buy books. But they also, and very often become disappointed. Use this to your advantage and put your best effort into writing something good and useful.

A modern website visitor has sensors that make him or her quickly decide whether your page is worth. And guess what? In most cases, the average web page is not worth the time. The visitor is so used to seeing websites that are cluttered with Ads by Google, that a well-written web page comes as a surprise. Your content does matter. Instead of trying to increase CTR of your AdSense ads, you should worry more about increasing the RTR (Read Through Rate) of your content. Position the ads in places on your web page where they can be easily seen, but let the visitor choose whether they want to click on them or not.

Obstructing the content with ads will absolutely make less visitors read the content of your website. Less people will be able to tell about and share your website with their friends. Because there would be no reason for it. I know this, because I've done my research.

Most websites created by amateur webmasters have one thing in common. They pursue AdSense revenue as their primary goal. This is not only against Google's rules, but also means that the created website will merely serve as a bait for particular keywords. These webmasters feel that the quality of content does not matter, and as long as visitors can be tricked into clicking on ads, they will be just fine. However, by adopting this strategy on the Internet, you are decelerating the process of your website being spread. You also increase the chance of receiving that email from the AdSense team saying that your contract has been terminated.

On the Internet, the only strategy is the long term strategy. Not many websites become popular in a matter of 30 or 60 days. It usually takes 6 to 12 months to start producing results.

Apparently you are trying to advertise links to your own websites by making irrelevant posts. You didn't even read what I said. Don't be the pigeon who shits on shiny red Ferrari. You can do better than that.
