Do you mean in the way you are ignoring the fact that what they are saying is that "PageRank" and "a good match for your query" are not synonymous? They are not saying that more than links go into PageRank... they are saying that more than PageRank goes into ranking your page.

It is a KNOWN equation. I don't have the link to the original white paper handy (I'm sure someone can point to it if need be), but it has been reposted many many times:
That's it, plain and simple. Links. Nothing else.

By the way, you still haven't showed which site it is you think got PR without any links whatsoever. The thread you pointed to with theories discussed G finding pages without links, not distributing PR to them.

Yes and I find it interesting to see what other people are experiencing. It helps me understand what kind of a PR update it was vs. the last few. Normally I try not to participate in these types of pr update discussions unless an update is actually in progress. Seems like the buzz for this one started about 2 weeks ago.

Briefly saw a PR4 go to PR5 (very excited about that) but then checking in an hour later it's back to 4 ... I hate the yo-yo.

Another domain went from 0 to 4 and two others from 0 to 2 so .... looks like it is indeed in progress.

No. I meant in the way that you ignored what was written on that page.
You know... the way you read the words "an indicator" and substitute "the only indicator" into the following sentence.
True, that PR and "good match for your query" are not synonymous, but, then again, they are discussing PR on that page, aren't they?
It's under the heading "PageRank Explained" just about half way down that page.

I'm not about to, either, even IF you actually answered my question by pointing me to the section that says that backlinks are the ONLY factor to determine PR. ;) You would, then, surely post something like "Sorry, but there must have been links to the site" as has already been posted by someone who doesn't even know the URL that he is 100% positive that there are backlinks to, which would make the action of posting the URL useless.

You are free to go on believing what you want, though. At least you're convictions are strong and you fully stand behind your beliefs.

Congratulations! Sounds like you're pretty pleased with your results. :)

My only advice is to keep churning out new, quality content and raking in those backlinks.

Ok, you're still doing it, but I don't think you are doing it on purpose.

PageRank uses links, and PageRank is an indicator of a page's value. PageRank is not the only indicator of a page's value, but links are the only factor in determining PageRank. It also goes on to say that it's not just the number of links pointing to a page, but also the number of links pointing to the pages linking to that end page, and so on.

That equation I pointed to is the actual equation. It is not someones guess, or random theory, or what is probably going on... it's really what's happening. I'm not asking you to trust me... feel free to research the goddam facts yourself. Seriously.

If you PM the url, I can probably find the link you say doesn't exist.

Oh, also, you do know that the link doesn't have to exist today for you to get the PR, right? It only had to exist when the snapshot for this PR export was taken.
