    What are you basing that on? Afaik, at least on all updates that I have checked, they are in fact the exact same snapshot. Why would they bother doing 2 sets of calculations, since whenever they export PR they export BL as well? And yes, I do know the inverse is not true.

    I did read it as a whole. You asked how could google find a site if it did not have any backlinks. The word you used was "found". I assumed you meant indexed. Found!=pr.

    I'm not a Google engineer, but that doesn't make my statement false.
    Many people make accurate statements all the time without ever becoming a Google engineer. ;)

    If you don't believe it, then that's your perogative. Like I said, I used to think as you do. I know better now.

    Did you read it fully? Of course, we all know that backlinks help provide PR.
    Can you please point to the section in your source that says that the ONLY WAY to get PR is from backlinks?

    hey guys thanks to u all and DP i have got a PR of 4 recently when i chekced my blog desibabesindia.blogspot.com rank . it was all due to link exchange with related high rank sites i m looking forward for high traffic suggest me some tips for link exchange and keyword building i mean the expensive keyword building

    Ok, this isn't theory, backlinks are the only factor in determining PR. It's an equation which has been discussed many times. What site is it you think you got PR from without any backlinks?

    Oh here is something VERY interesting ........ this page on my directory site which I only created last month is showing signs it's going to be a PR4 !!! :eek:

    yup, i too got PR 4 for my new site... backlinks does not increase your traffic if you got them only for increasing PR... try to get featured and site wide backlinks, they can give you traffic...

    Where in Google's explanation of PR does it say that? Feel free to point out even a single sentence on this page that states that links are the ONLY method of determining a page's PR. You can't.

    From the same page...
    "an indicator" does not mean "the only indicator".

    "far beyond" sure makes it seem as though other factors are involved. Doesn't it? :rolleyes:

    Google explains it so well, yet so many choose to ignore what they have to say.

    With out question pr only comes from backlinks. However there are cases in which a site will receive pr without having google backlinks updated. I saw this with one of my clients before this update. The site had pr 3 and pr 2 on all inner pages, but according to google the site had no backlinks at the time.

    I think what happens is that sometimes google takes pr snap shot before the backlink snap shot, as you know sometimes google does a pr update and not a backlink update I believe that would cause the site to get pr showing in the toolbar without backlinks.

    The same can be seen in the reverse, in which a site has google backlinks but no page rank. Here is an example: http://www.discoveringnewheights.com/ only seven google backlinks all which are over 3 months old yet the site did not get a pr update.

    Once again, very strange update going on here.
