My one month old web directory starting showing a PR of 3 today scattered across the data centers (obviously it had been 0, previously). At the same time, though, it looks like my blog is dropping down from 5 to 4.

Yeah, it's kind of random. My forum has a lot more backlinks listed in google now and there aren't any paid links, but it's PR stayed the same.

I have noticed too that this update is a bit strange... a few observations on my sites.

    1. Unattended sites - PR remains without any additional links that I know of within last 3-4 months
    2. Sites that I have not purchased additional paid links on but have gained natural links seemed to have a 1PR drop.

I am confused on how big sites such as DP etc ... would have less PR. I mean it couldnt have dropped that many links during the last 3 months. Also I dont think Shawn purchases any/many paid links - so it shouldnt be a penalty.

If they turned up the requirements equired to achieve high PRs that might be an explanation. But takeing the previous site as an example (excuse me kojakfilth - :)) .

Articlebasement has 452 Yahoo backlinks and is at PR 6.
DP Forums is at PR6 with 86K backlinks

Thats a big band for PR6. I realise its about the quality of the backlinks but DP keeps very good company as well i you check the above Yahoo link.

Something I feel is a bit messed up with his update or it isnt finished yet...

    Any thoughts?

I'm still seeing plenty of scattered results across data centers for my sites, which is usually a good sign that it's not finished yet.

number of backlinks is not directly related to PR.

I got some 20 K backlinks and got PR 6 now. Last update i got PR 5 for 1 month old blog which is now only 4 months old. I guess Pr 6 for a 4 month old blog is good

Number backlinks plus quality of those backlnks does matter.
Just having lots of spammy links might not work for pr6+

i agree xenyo...DP loosing a Pr 7 to Pr 6 was the biggest surprise of this update.

I suspect its something to do with DP giving away PR in their signature links. It might be canceling the VOTES

Cool! I've notices today that my blog which is only 1,5 month old and has only 8 posts (1 post per week) has got pagerank 4! It's amazing, considering that i'm new to this thing. And another website, which is only going to launch already has PR1. Or maybe google toolbar is showing wrong PR? But hope it's not mistaken.

There are bigger surprises than DP when it come to PR dropping on this update, Just used DP cos everyone on here is familiar with it.

Also, the forum homepage doesnt have any sig links.

Personally, I am all for Google making it harder to get high PR or turning up damping filters, etc but it just doesnt seem to me that they have done it correctly on this update based on the reports we have.

    Anyways, its all fun ...::p
