One dollar IDEA cannot be a business model. A Buck? If you sold 100 copies then you make $100 for all that effort? I really do not think this is a good business model.
I also don't think it has much 'legs' unless you have a very strong OTO and a very strong promotional incentive for your affiliates... because if you are not using affiliates you are selling to people already on your list. In regards to customer support... I would much rather one customer paying $1000 then 1000 customers paying $1. But in building a qualified list of buyers with volume would work. Personally I have been offered to buy a good product twice for $1 and felt it wasn't worth the time of going through the effort of buying. I just didn't value it. i think thats a good business model, like if you have hundreds of products selling for $1 in a category, you get more sales per visitor, but i dont think its can be publish through google adwords, we have to find otherways. So may be creating ebay stores may work better. Also espired said, we can create a good opt in list.
The idea is certainly worth it. Someone said earlier, that it is not worth the effort, to earn $100 if you sell 100 copies. I beg to differ, as many more people will buy. A buck is hardly anything in today's world, so people shall have no qualms in spending a buck for potentially valuable information.
Yes, but this all depends on who your customer actually is. If you are selling to businesses, something worth a buck might make them think it's complete crap. On the other side if you're selling to students or other broke people then a buck is great!
