I have noticing in the last 6 months so many sites are going to no follow links to gain Pagerank. What I am seeing just the opposite happening. Sites are loosing Pagerank instead. I have never No-followed any links, as a result my pages have remained steady in their Pagerank. I think No-Following links can create just the opposite effect. Has anyone else noticed a drop in Pagerank after no following links? I think it diverts the flow and has a backward effect. Sorry for double post, the server timed out and when I refreshed the page it was not posted. Again sorry dont penilize me.
I've not switched my links to nofollow on any of my sites. When looking at other sites though I've seen sites take PR hits over the last few months for no apparent reason. I was wondering myself if there was a tweak to how Google calculates Page Rank.
Yes..with nofollow property the entire link structure get's changed. It is good to keep any one property constant to avoid loss of PR
If it's internal linking structure using the nofollow, then I would say that could have a profound effect on how Google is ranking your site and your pages.
I got caught in the no follow tornado for a while. It was stupid. Although I do still use them to hide my privacy policy and contact page. I really dont want those to be my search engine results. It just looks stupid.
Moron best describes someone using a nofollow tag on internal links. Mandatory on all outbound links. But inside a site, just dumb. But keep doing it guys. When your clients get pissed and go out for bids, we remove the nofollow, PR goes up, we get the account and get paid.
Honestly I've seen no rankings decline or go up because we removed the nofollow on outbound links on certain pages. On internal links, I agree that pages like signup pages, remember password, etc. should be nofollowed. They are crap pages. Why would one want them indexed regardless of PR internal flow. I still feel that if you have a blog then it's best to follow links within the post itself but to external nofollow the comment links. I think Google will always treat comments links a certain way from this point forward. They are easy to get, spam, and should not pass any real value.
I read that no follow tags can be related to PR sculpting. Maybe that's why no follow is no longer as good an idea as it was before
Rather than keeping the nofollow on privacy policy and contact us links, simply disallow them in the robots.txt file. This way they won't get indexed and you have a site with all internal links followed, job done! Basically you should only nofollow the links that YOU haven't added to your site and paid links, i.e. comments etc.
There was a thread about Pagerank Sculpting last week, check it our here: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=1365906
Some say that if you are linking to an `authority` site it is better in fact to `dofollow` those links.
ah, the 'no follow' lie... one of the 3 great lies... along with 'The checks in the post', and 'of course I won't *** in **** *****'.
