I was reading an article about how the internet is ever expanding and it's clear that the internet HAS to change. There have been a few theories on how this will happen, here are two: 1. Supernet A completely fresh start. As the chips are doubling every two years, more processing power is becoming available. With this in mind, the possibility of the internet being redesigned, redeveloped and reshaped will lead to the "Supernet." This sounds exciting. One problem... What if, when/if this does happen, the developers decide that HTML, PHP, XHTML, BB, MySQL etc etc etc is no longer the best form of coding. What if they develop new forms of coding, using the ever growing processing power, there are new standards in place. Bigger and better, giving webmasters a whole new way to interact with their users such as: - High Definition websites - 3D websites - 3D advertising If the above does happen, I believe webmasters will jump at the chance to target their users in a different way. Could this officially end HTML and leave PHP/XHTML where HTML currently is? Will search engines index the new "supercode" better than PHP? 2. Bigger space available. We all know that the webspace is running out. This alone would be a big incentive for webmasters to jump onto the new form of net. Just a thought anyway... Anyone wish to expand upon this?
3d websites and 3d advertising require super fast internet connection. unless we have that kind of speed, major internet upgrade is not possible.
I think we are talking in things that will happen in about 10 years. Sure the internet is quickly growing and one day mostly everything will be internet related but that's definitly not for tomorrow
It's a good thing to think about though because it has to happen at some point. As I said, processing power is always increasing, Moore's law still proves this theory. Something has to happen with the net in the next few years because we're running out of space.
