The Next Big Web Thing - Thoughts And Heads Up

I'm just getting this new site up and running. The Next Big Web Thing isn't meant to be that itself, but its looking for it.

I'm posting this to ask for a review and as well as giving members a heads-up. In the review I'd like to know if the colours and navigation are OK, and the concept comes across in the copy - is easy to follow.

As for the head's-up - if you think you have an original idea or site that would fit in then let us know via the contact page at the site.

I'm stressing original here. Any submissions for another Million Dollar clone or a cookie cutter splog will be ignored. ;)

I have a team of 4 or 5 web industry types who will be joining me on the look out - I have to make a team page and get some profile pages sorted etc - covering a nice breadth of areas (coding, content, etc) so they will start adding entries to the site as they spot stuff.

    Cheers!

It's a great idea and wish you all the best luck with it - I'm sure you will succeed.

Now for the (mini) review: I'll give you my first impression and must admit that the layout could probably be more inviting. I think te dotted section-borders, along with the same background color all over, makes the whole thing look a little cluttered. It's pretty easy to find your way around after getting used to the "look", but as you know many people decide whether to stay on a site within the fist few seconds, and I think you could give a better first impression.

Maybe use a different lighter background color foir the main-text section (but keep the current for the navigation and header sections), so the text stands out better.

These are just suggestions and I hope you will take it as constructive critique. I do like the concept.

Thanks the Mags, that's some good points there. I will play with the colours a bit later when I get a chance. I liked the simplicity of single colour, but thinking about it - It may help to differentiate areas. Thanks Mike also. ;)

I am no webdesign expert or anything, but just a suggestion.

I know you said u will take care of colours later on. I think you should put a a colour for content and a colour for sidebar.
