The next best thing

Since DMOZ is basically asleep at the wheel, what is the next best directory to be submitted to. Obviously besides Yahoo and Google. Is there another large, important independant project?

The reason I ask is I have like 7 sites that have all been submitted twice over the last 3 years and none ever get submitted. My niche is basically non-existant on DMOZ. It's like 5+ years out-dated...

Yeah, the Google directory is the next big thing

Hehe... it's the SAME thing :p

BOTW or whatever is the next most commonly named one I see around these parts, but honestly, no one really cares about directories out side of webmaster circles. Ask your non-webmaster type friends if they know what one is....there is a good chance they will not. If they do know, ask if they can name three of them. If they can, ask if they have ever been to one.

The chances get narrower and narrower...

You could really be talking about any category :(

And one I edit has over 100,000.

Nope, just more interested in playing World of Warcraft at the moment and tending to my water garden, my other hobbies. You know how hobbies are, you do them when you feel like it or have the time to, that's what editing is, a hobby.

If you get listed in DMOZ now it's a great pleasure mate...

i edit quite a few categories and my today's edit is over 50 i think , which is quite common for a day . People on the other end of the fence often tend to have a different idea , as it is easy to say so.

No, not really. I have to agree. The category I have a site in has 80 something links, 30 of them are broken or their domains have lapsed to spammers.

    Been that way for years.

And what makes you think a voluntary Dmoz editor is obligated to fix them , while you have been looking and finding them for months and not even bothered once reporting in the proper way ?
The Dmoz editor gets just as much benefit by reviewing or unreviewing them as you get by discussing about them in a irrelevant forum. Actually he would still get blamed even after fixing them.

What makes you think they haven't been reported? Over and over again?

edit: Hell, I even volunteered to take over the category but "Since there's already one in place" I was turned down.

DMOZ was a big thing? I guess about 10 years ago. As for the next "big" thing, get some decent related links to your sites.

This is never the only reason an application is unsuccessful.
You received detailed feedback which was intended to help you prepare another application.
Many editors have followed this advice successfully. :)

I checked. There are no Update Requests and no outstanding Resource Zone notifications for that category, so perhaps you have not used the correct system?
