    Everytime there's a new TLD, copyright issues pop up. What is someone owns SITE.com but doesn't own SITE.xxx Both are adult sites. Copyright or trademark issues?

    No, .xxx will not come about because ICANN does not want to be a content babysitter. They do not feel it is their job to make all pr0n sites sit on one TLD.

    I think it's a stupid idea. Anyone who wants to sell porn will register outside of .xxx, so they are not hit by blanket blocks on that TLD. They may also register a .xxx name but I can guarantee it won't be their only web site.

    So the only thing it really does is make it easier to find porn.

    How will it help, since every porn distributor will have one .xxx and one .com site?

    If I remember correctly when this idea was brought up a couple years ago, is the adult site owners would have the option if they wanted to switch to the .xxx TLD. Most didn't like the idea obviously and therefore it would be pretty pointless to even allow it.

    .sex & .xxx SOON
    Well,

    I was on the bus this morning and I read an article that said the following ;

    PORNOGRAPHIC WEBSITES ARE to be given their own online home - creating a virtual red light district.

    The traditional domains they use such as .com, .org and .co.uk will be replaced with .xxx.

    The move for the multi-billion-pound porn industry has been approved by the body that oversees the net's addressing system, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN).

    Sexually explicit sites will be encouraged to move to .xxx to make it easier for people to filter and avoid them.

    Signing up will be entirely voluntary but the ICM Registry - formed specifically to lobby for the creation of the domain - said some pornographers supported the move.

    'This will help protect children from exposure to online pornography and also have a positive impact on online adult entertainment through voluntary efforts of the industry,' said a spokesman.

    The .xxx domains will be sold for about £40, up to ten times more than the cost of other dotcom names.

    Some experts warned the take-up among porn companies may be low.

    'If you have a very successful porn site running off a particular domain name you are going to be reluctant to change that,' said Jonathan Robinson, from NetNames.

    The approval of .xxx domains reverses earlier decisions to block it over fears it would be ineffective and controversial.

    Earlier this year, ICANN officially approved the creation of the .jobs and .travel domains.
