latest browser stats: w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_stats.asp since feb 07 to feb 08 they grew their market share by 0.3% to 2.0% - that includes linux people using Konqueror. Compare it to the rate at which FF grew when it was released. It wont be killing anything anytime soon. I downloaded it when it was first released for windows...used it for a session and then logged off and uninstalled it...was not my thing really as I was happy with IE7 + FF that i use. It's just a move to pile pressure on MS but I dont think it's working as it just opens up apple's software to the mass market and virus writers/hackers who prey on windowsised software. also i think 3.1 of safari was the version that some guys at a security conference comprimised to walk away with $10,000 prize money and a mac Air notebook - took them 2 min - admititaly it was a safari running on max osx not windows.
I think though its a big step. People mostly use IE and FF,something new and attractive will be good!!
Opera 9.5 is by far superior to other browsers, in terms of CPU & Memory usage, it also has quite a lot of neat functions. I've only had a few problems with it when trying to load WYSIWYG editors that are only compatible with certain browsers.
Safari isn't really intended for Windows users. So it's quite agreeable if you will find a lowdown on it. I'll stick with FireFox, it's the best for me.
The purpose of releasing it on Windows is so developers, and users, become familiar with it so they will start creating software for the iPhone, which uses Safari as its browser. The browser has excellent standards support.
I also think it's ok for xhtml/css coders who have no Mac to see how it will look there. So probably no need to buy Mac (if they display pages the same on Windows)
Your lack of knowledge is showing. No self respecting web developer worth his salt would ever say IE is the better browser.
Lot of websites have issues with Safari .. Had Safari 3 Beta installed on XP and I ran into so many issues .. I never liked it anyway!
Before some time i installed the beta version , but still i prefer only firefox, i dont think safari will overtake the firefox and IE
Safari is an integrated application for Mac. It is very hard for it to be stand alone on Windows. I used the beta and it lacks plenty of features. But on a Mac system it does make up for that.
