As a frequent buyer on the DPF Buy, Sell or Trade, the recent changes have made these boards less user friendly.

Quick replying "Plz PM me the URL", is far quicker than PMing the OP the URL thread and the same question.

Rather than changing the users, why not use the opportunity to make the boards more useful?

An option is a Quick "PM OP about this thread" text box in the Buy, Sell or Trade section of the forums.

Another is not to count posts in the Buy, Sell or Trade section toward post count and have threads in Buy, Sell or Trade sort by first post, rather than last post.

I'm surprised at DPF, for not getting creative with the problem and instead opting to inconvenience its loyal user base.

TBH I think it does well as it is.
A lot of what you suggest would be a lot of work, and would need to be done by the admin.

I would think that not counting the posts in the BST would be a great idea. It will deter those PM me please and those that post thanks at every single thread, whether or not the thread is relevant to them is another matter.

    1. We don't have the ability to simply add a tool / text box. It's been suggested in the past, and things like that rely entirely on Shawn. The mods, in the meantime, are responsible for keeping the boards cleaner, and that's why we set the rules that we did.

    2. Bumping has always been against the rules. It's never been "allowed" to tell people to bump your threads, or for them to do it whether you ask or not. These rules aren't so much "new" as being something we've decided to crack down harder on, considering the bulk of BST posts were turning into complete crap.

    3. Keep in mind that the free marketplace is a privilege. Taking the time to PM when you're genuinely interested in something isn't a huge inconvenience for what you're getting for free right now (and that's not just coming from a mod, but from someone who does a lot of business here as well).

    4. It's not simply a case of people bumping post counts (that's just the infraction some mods are using for it, b/c it's the one they feel is most relevant from our limited choices - personally, I give them "inappropriate post / thread" infractions instead). It's more about people using these tactics to keep their threads near the top of the sales sections, which isn't allowed and which is an abuse of the privilege people have in being able to conduct business here. This is precisely why things like the PM tool exist.
