I'm thinking about purchasing one (the 20 inch) but I'm wondering if it is worth the money. I'm not a gamer at all, but I am a pretty serious (imo) webmaster and online entrepeneur. I spend 3-5 hours daily on the net and don't download too much, usually small things less than 10 MB if anything. Is this worth the money and can it fit what I would do? (specs: http://www.apple.com/imac/specs.html, the 2.0 Ghz)
I have a 17-inch iMac with a 1.8GH processor and 1GB of RAM. I love it! I do my website on it easily. I'll bet the 20" screen you are considering is awesome. I also have a 15" MacBook Pro with a 2GH processor and 2GB of RAM. With the extra RAM and slightly more powerful processor, it does outperform the iMac, but not by much. For the website I still use the iMac and have absolutely no trouble with it. The iMac meets all my webmaster needs.
Let's see the price differential. Ouch, that's an extra $150. Anyone know is RAM can be added afterwards?
Well, for a 15 year old, spending 1700 (or around 2000) on a cpu is going to be a hard job. 1100 or 1300 is much more reasonable (the 2.0 ghz 20'')
I just bought the 20" iMac 2,4GHz with 2GB RAM and it's working perfectly for my webmaster needs and also my gaming needs. I installed Windows Vista on it for my gaming needs and I'm playing all kind af games perfectly (for example, Crysis, Call of Duty 4 etc.) Either get the 20" or the 24" they are both perfect.
Haha thanks for all the responses. I'm choosing between the 2.0 ghz 20'' and the 2.4 ghz 24'' $500 is a lottt of money.
Go with 2.4 ghz 24 inch... You are obviously you going to use it a lot, it won't get to waste, you are using it to get money, so go for it!
for 2200, the large imac is nice but apples are high dollar machines. with that said, I just got a new 800$ hp and it's every bit as powerful as the 2200 imac, I already had a 19" lcd and i'm planning to get another. I'm like you, not a gamer but do spend a lot of time online messing with websites. for me, it was more of the programs that i need will be hard to find for a mac my wife has a powerbook and I really wanted to get one of the new G5's, but 800$ vs 2200$,, it wasn't really a question at that point.
