A for-profit organization's list is always NOT real. Do you believe all those Gartner reports?!. UNESCO is a World consortium and they have defined 'World Heritage sites'. Most of these talks about '<X>wonders of the world' is just marketing material for tourism industry. Definitely not from that Fake Website!. You can make some assumptions about the origin of the Current list from the Wikipedia page though. IF you've participated in this campaign, you made this guy more richer!
The results are: Chichén Itzá, Mexico Christ Redeemer, Brazil The Great Wall, China Machu Picchu, Peru Petra, Jordan The Roman Colloseum, Italy The Taj Mahal, India Nice list, although I would chosen Angkor Wat in Cambodja instead of Christ The Redeemer in Brazil. Think the voting process was a bit laughable. To see sites such as Chichén Itzá, and Christ Redeemer to get voted ahead of Angkor Wat... Just a popularity contest in the end. I'm sure most of the people voting had never been to any the candidates.
True, Angkor Wat deserves to be on the list imo. Also, it's more than just a popularity contest, it's also quite commercial. I read on Slashdot that there were computers at the exit of Macchu Picchu that allowed visitors to vote for free. Brazilian telecom companies weren't charging for vote sms'es. And I'm not even talking about the promotion for the Taj Mahal in India.
betathome (bookmaker) was paying 1.01 if you type, that Great Wall will be one of 7 wonders! I should bet, damn ;P
i think many shouldnt be on there and that the temple in cambodia should of been there,, this list was chosen by nations with giant populations promoting their own wonders
