Ok, I've decided to do a little test/example, this is kinda related to another thread on here. I have a profile on MySpace that currently has the grand total of 4 friends, I'm going to use some of the techniques I've described in this thread and others to see: 1. How many friends can I get in a vertical market. 2. What methods work to get the desired end result. I'll be posting on my blog more about it shortly. (See Recent Blog above for a link to my blog)
I would also like to join in. I've got 4 sites and one of them is actually a myspace clone so it could be interesting.... May I join in?
I am interested, i got 3 accounts 1 30k, 1 89k and 1 20k. But cnt really get traffic from them, bulletins dnt really work for me my site is profileguy.com
I'm not planning on spamming anyone, I'm planning on making effective use of my friends list to market a site. It's just another method of marketing your website
Here is just a little something I did today that has a lot to do with this. I was bulletining some of my sites. I decided I would post my referall url from TornCity in a bulletin although I doubted it would get anywhere. Well within about an hour I had 2 sign ups. I was very suprised. If two people actually signed up then a bunch more must have actually visited the page. Note that I only have 1300 friends. Most promotors who advertise have a lot more.
Results at this point Sem-Advance 60 Visitors within 24 hours from the bulletin for his drink recipe site. Hogwild 56 Visitors within 24 hours from the bulletin for his picture site. There will also be visitors trickling in from the bulletin for the next week. 3000 friends ~ 60 unique visitors = ~2% within 24 hours The most important thing is that these results should scale well. 6000 friends ~ 120 unique visitors/24 hours 10000 friends ~ 200 unique visitors/24 hours 20000 friends ~ 400 unique visitors/24 hours etc.
I'm curious as to why you would want me to bulletin your site when you have already sold a 5500 friend account and are currently marketing through myspace?
Thanks, just underwent a MAJOR redesign a few weeks back.. Let me know if you're interested in doing the experiment with us. If you want it natural sounding, you could post about an upcoming show, and directly link to that show's page on our site.
That's quite an increase in traffic to that site. How often do you plan to post links to MySpace using this profile?
routed11, are you still looking for any test subjects? I have a car website that I think your male audience would respond well too. The only drawback is the forum is New England based. However, the store is marketed all over.
At this point the experiment is over, some good general numbers were generated. The Myspace account is now around 4500
I'm still experimenting (see blog for details) MySpace can definately drive mass traffic to a site, there are caveats on that, the kind of site, how it's done, etc. Depending on the kind of site your trying to promote you may want to consider creating a new myspace profile and seeking out people with that specific interest. Although I am having great success using a general profile with a lot of friends (just under 25k now) to market a vertical market site and a profile site.
