Are there certain types of backlinks that are more effective than others? What is the most effective backlinks when you compare say directories, links from blog posts, article directories, forum signatures, blog comments, guest posts links, press release links, profile links, etc? If you focus on just one type of backlink building like submitting to article directories or just forum posting, will this be enough to get you to the top of SERPs?
Any backlinks that come from pages having similar content and meta tags. Also, the backlinks that are within the text of an articla have more value than those on the sidebars and footers. I recommend backlinks from articles though.
I think you should mix them all for the best backlinks. But I think guests posts will be the best, if the article is relevant and not only excists of crap
Almost all link directories have lost value over time. However, a few top ones still have value like DMOZ.
For sure Articles submission will give you very much effective backlinks but blog comments is also important
Use all methods, Blog Commenting, Forum posting, signature links, article submission, blog posting, presss release, link wheel, reciprocal links and directory submission, social bookmarking aswell.
What I've seen is that Google values editorial links the most, that is the links that are placed inside the content. Also, if the content is related to your site, links are valued even higher. As for backlinking strategies, I also think that using as many methods as possible is the best way to go.
As long as your backlink site is quality site, then the backlink is "effective" no matter they are directory, forum or social media
I agree. If the links comes from any relevant and quality sites then none will analyze how the link you made. So try all the techniques to build quality backlinks for your site.

Hi, I'm new in the system of backlinks, but I use various methods and it was quite successful in increasing page rank backlinks and maintaining on my website, namely: join to any brokers, add url on google webmaster, social media marketing, optimizing the blog directory :example technorati, join to websites which offering for free backlinks.
Backlinks from high pr sites weighs a lot in the eyes of google. So, i would suggest instead for going for 20 low pr backlinks go for 10 backlinks from high pr sites.
The idea that a link may carry greater weight from a page that is devoted to the same topic as the destination page is another bit of nonsense that SEOs have adopted. Apparently, relevance isn’t all that it has been cooked up to be after all. If you get 1,000 DIGGs tomorrow and as many links from a broad selection of Web sites, will you ask Google to let you specify a “NO LINK CREDIT†list in your robots.txt file so that it doesn’t pass anchor text from unrelated sites? Just because people have engaged in cheap link building strategies with low-value sites doesn’t mean that all links from unrelated pages are harmful or unhelpful. So, my Answer is: The best backlinks come from the quality of content. If you are constantly posting high quality content, readers will want to visit your blog more often. Other bloggers may link to your website sighting a great article that they have read and this in turn will give a backlink and open another avenue of traffic.
