Saw this yesterday, checked back today, the guy has sold more spots. Wish I had thought of this!

Check this guy out, he's bought his domain name (www.milliondollarhomepage.com) and he want a million dollars for college. He's selling ad space on the site, nothing new there. However, he's selling it off in 10x10 pixel blocks. There's a million pixels and he's selling each one for a dollar. At the moment he's only sold a few but i'm sure people will take him up on the offer, the site is guaranteed to be live for at least the next 5 years. If you're thinking "Why doesn't he get a job like everyone else?"...

Its a live link for a dollar...Better get in early though as there won't be much value when there are a million other links on one page

You need to buy at least 100 pixels...

    Such a great idea...

I thought about posting this the other day but forgot to

I just noticed the 100 minimum

I actually considered buying 10 as a bit of fun but I really don't want to give the guy $100 when I can think of a lot better uses

Yeah, but most of them will be tracked - but it's the direct traffic benefit you'll see at this stage...
It's been mentioned on BBC, and C4 too...

Wow there's even an AdSense scam in there!

Click the little yellow one right under the 'u' of Buy Pixels towards the top. It's a Meso scam!

go to the last one and its called duped. They are a web design service, I personally don't try to get duped!

(Maybe on the other side of the pond duped means something else?)

'Duped' could also mean duplicated so maybe they specialize in scraper sites.

What a cool original idea. Doesn't look like he's having much luck yet though.

He's made $900 since I first heard of the site earlier this morning.. I'd say that isn't bad for the cost of hosting!

I recon he spends around $10/month on hosting he he. Very good idea and i see its going well... I thought that one pixel was on square. It turns out that one will cos you $100 which is quite a bit.

    -edit-

    "2,000 unique visitors per hour"

I have just changed my mind about $10/month hosting

That is one seriously beautiful idea :D Very interesting reading in the FAQ and Blog. In the two weeks since the launch, he's already made a cool $5400. The guy is going to be set for life, I don't doubt for a minute that he's going to eventually sell most spots. He certainly deserves his success for coming up with such a simple yet brilliant concept.

It'll be interesting to see what his PR jumps to in the next Google toolbar update... and whether he'll get sandboxed for acquiring too many inbounds too quickly ;)
