    Got around 50 new users to my blog yesterday and 100 more today from one of the threads I started at DP for Free Blog Comments :)

    Actually people came to the blog and stumbled/bookmarked it which caused the increase in traffic.

    Ok it's the end of the 20'ooo marketing challenge, and you are probaly all wondering how did I go well I got 21'281 not bad for a month hey.

    So how did I do it you are wondering. Ok you start by using social networking sites to promote your site using social networking. I chose digg as my first port of call I wrote a heap of stories for my blog and dugg every single one of them, that brought me alot of unique traffic quick.

    After I did digg I started using stumbleupon I stumbled everyone of my pages, and I joined alot of stumble groups on webmaster forums to get people stumbling my site, this worked well bringing in thousands of uniques stumbleupon is a great source of traffic for your website.

    Blog commenting I spent a good lot of my time leaving comments on top blogs with alot of my sites link , this also helped with traffic and getting me some good back links to my site.

    Article submission all of my articles I write I submit to as many article directories as possible that way I get good back links and alot of traffic to my site from these articles as I embed links into the articles.

    Ok that's about it , use that principal and I'm sure you will get as much traffic.

    I totally put no effort into it honestly. :( Other things just kept coming up, then I was ill for most of last week, then I had technical problems.... not a good month in that sense. the BlogTalkRadio show was also delayed.

    But on that note, the show will officially launch Wednesday at 6pm Eastern time, and I'll be chatting with Stacey Lloyd, founder of the niche content network www.PreschoolRock.com about promoting niche content sites. We won't be discussing the kinds of things you constantly hear in webmaster communities (like link-building, keyword density, article directories, etc.). Instead, we'll be talking more about adapting more traditional marketing tactics for the Web (things that often get neglected by webmasters... such as building relationships with industry insiders and major corporations through networking and cross-promotional opps, etc.). Stacey's a friend and colleague (so I already know we have a good dynamic with our "chats"), and is outstanding when it comes to getting the "big dogs" to notice, so it will definitely make for an interesting show. :) Check it out and call in if you'd like - www.blogtalkradio.com/chicktech (I'm still working on the "official" blog, which will be at http://talk.chicktech.net ).

    Done. I simply spent the last several months building an army of affiliates who earn high commissions to promote my program. Nothing like 20,000 uniques happens in just a month, starting from nothing. Nor can it be done in less than a couple months all by yourself.

    It's like a magic trick, there needs to be preparation. When people tell you they got 20,000 uniques in a month, they probably did, what they don't tell you about is the preparation that took place before that month kicked off.

    Seriously think about it.

    My online games website was partaking in this competition behind the scenes. My host stopped recording statistics for seven days, which is when I believe my traffic peaked. My actual bandwidth usage was a bit over 260 GB, compared to the mere 144 GB AwStats reported, which led me to this conclusion.

    [IMG]

    Ignoring that reality, I still managed to add a cumulative 44,308 uniques this month relative to the previous one, which is a reasonable achievement setting aside the reality that the actual figure of unique visitors are probably far greater.

    [IMG]

    What did I do this month?
    - Not spend a dime in marketing;
    - Submit my website to directories manually;
    - Prepare an article near the end of the month;
    - Transfer to a semi-dedicated host so that the website is online more often;
    - Beg, plead or request (whichever worked) website owners to give me a link.

    How much did I earn?
    - A few dollars above that of the previous month; my CTR is horrendous.

    I will be rather busy this month, so the gain in traffic may not be as profound. On the contrary, my efforts in article and directory submissions during May should theoretically show their true colors within this month, as it takes four or more weeks for free listings to get approved. In either case, my goal is to double the amount of unique visitors each month, hopefully end up with a steady 100,000 Google impressions per day, and rank on Google's first page for the term 'online games.'

    Wish me luck, or just give me a backlink - I appreciate the latter more! ;)

    It didn't work out too well for me :(

    I went from 2400 uniques in April to 3700 in May. The social networking sites didn't give me as much traffic as I had hoped. The only one that brought a good number of visitors was stumbleupon. I did start several new sites in May though, so I am still trying to promote them.

    Besides preparation, there's something else to consider: the quality of the traffic. For example, SU might bring someone thousands of unique visitors, but that traffic quality is often poor, not leading to return visits (making the traffic a bit harder to maintain, nonetheless build up more), and rarely monetizing well in comparison to other methods of traffic-building. The interesting thing would actually be if some who made the goal would talk about what else it led to as far as monetization, sign-ups, etc. depending on what's relevant to their site.

    Ofcourse take for instance last month I had 14,000 uniques, out of that I had 467 signups. 352 of them stayed free members while the rest took me up on my one time offer of paying me $9.75 a month when they signed up.

    How do I know this? I looked for only quality traffic and tracked where that traffic went to and what they did once they got there. It seriously is not enough to just send traffic to your site and say "Yay I got traffic!"

    There is so much more involved in way of conversions and tracking. Good point J. ;)

    What a kick butt thread!!! How did I miss this last month. So ok, I'll jump in here and use the techniques you guys used last month.

    In May I had 1212 uniques. So 41212 huh? okie.

    Oh I forgot. I also spend around $50/mo. on Adwords
