Here are SEKings.com, we strongly believe that backlinks are the KEY to the internet. If you think about a spiders web you can see where they came up with the name web and how backlinks are the backbone of the internet. The point is to be the middle of the web, so all the other peices of the web are connecting to you. All search engines use backlinks to find what the best sites are. Back in the old days of the web people solely got their backlinks from other websites. Now, there are various ways you can get a good amount of backlinks. One great method to gain quality backlinks is Wikipedia . Wikipedia is a user edited encyclopedia that is loved by google. Google will rank a wikipedia link before anything else in its search engine. Getting a link to your site from here can strongly increase traffic and ranking. Going back to our example in our previous post lets say we own “Jims Car Parts”. We just search wikipedia for certain types of car parts like “mufflers”. Then we just edit the page on wikipedia and add a link to our muffers section and add the appropriate anchor text. ... Yep, Wikipedia was good, but then now they use no follows, I don't waste my time on the site.

 

Thats too bad. We get about 100-500 unqiues a day from wikipedia to one of our sites.

 

Wikipedia is good for targeted traffic if you do enough editing to be able to get away with placing external links.

I'm just raising an eyebrow, because the idea that's there much point to wandering through the pages of wikipedia placing your links on there is just silly. I never said you would not get traffic, but no good for long term seo because as magda says

They are starting to really tighten up and will be checking every new link. So what is the point of doing it unless your link is really relevant, if it is to a sales page it will go.

If you keep doing it, they will ban your IP address etc.

thanks. BTW We are not saying to go around and post a million links on wikiepdia. We are talking about linking to high quality sites that are relavent to the content.

 

No follow links can help traffic but do not help serp of a site. I would work on good links that are follow first and maybe add some links to no follow sites if they have good traffic.
