Well I've got the icon in the same directory as the index for the site. How do you define the DocumentRoot?

I define it in httpd.conf, in each virtual hosts section.

Are there other ways to do so of which you are aware?

httpd.conf now supports an Include directive which allows you to keep virtual host configurations in seperate files.

But usually, if you are not the sysadmin, you are forced to use whatever DocumentRoot the sysadmin decides is best for you.

It's usually fine -- and long as you know what it is.

And that folder is where the favicon.ico file is supposed to go?

It was discussed earlier above that even if the icon is in the right directory, there are some browsers that won't pick it up correctly.

That appears to be inaccurate. It appears that "some servers won't serve it correctly."

However, I have also seem favicon.ico caching bugs with various web browsers -- no matter where the favicon is stored.

Also, is there any particular reason that it would be a good idea not to have the root directory be the same one that you serve your public html documents from?
