Alexa is for the most part worthless for anything but maybe the top 10k. It relies way to heavily on listings on social bookmarking sites. Not actual traffic from social bookmarking sites mind you. Just having content submitted there. Crazy. My opinion of course
Alexa is SO not accurate at all. They could be making up their numbers once you reach the 1,000 + rankings.
You have that right. I would really like to know how a site getting 100 uv per day ranks in the top 100k but a site that gets 1500 uv per day does not. It is completely mind numbing. What do they do? Fling darts at a wall to see who ranks where. I asked Alexa too! Their answer was basically -> our stats really are not that accurate.
Here's a list of directories sorted by Alexa traffic rank. It only lists directories that have a traffic rank of about 140,000 or better. You can use the search to add more to the list (with worse traffic ranks) or to narrow the list by PR, niche, price, etc.
Some of the lists are out of date. I notice that the ranking of .co.cc domains is all skewed on the lists, because it's some kind of redirection domain but anything listed under it was given the same rank. I suspect that Alexa did something to fix that in the middle of February, because that's when its traffic ranking takes a nosedive. Once in a while Alexa just does something to its rankings to correct a bias like this, and when they do their graphs cease to make any kind of sense.
It's interesting how so many people put faith in Alexa "statistics", but as I understand, their information is derived from observing behaviour of users who have actually downloaded their toolbar. Is that correct? If so, their stats are only a relevant summary of Alexa users - certainly not the whole web.
The one that has the most indexed and cached pages, and ranks better for the inner category titles. Oh and, I saw websites with alexa rank 350.000+ but with more than 30.000 unique visitors per month. How that sounds to you ? I can tell you for sure that most of the paid directory owners, have traffic between 0 ~ 50 uniques a day, but the alexa is much higher because of the webmaster traffic...in comparison with a normal non-webmaster related website. If you understand this, you will understand how a directory with PR0 can be better than one with PR6.
Neither are good rating systems. I can tell you of at least one which is averaging well over 20 times that
It's outdated. For example, botw.org You got rank 19946 and 19414 should be. How often to update the rank?
