Here are just a few. Please feel free to add to the list: - Post at forums or blogs which have high Pr and no nofollow - Create a really good blog article and use it as link bait by letting the internet community spread it - Buy high pr links but only from sites in your niche Feel free to continue this list.
You didn't mention on page optimization. Also check your competitor's backlinks.. Exchange links, but not excessively, with similar sites in your niche. Submit to good directories in the appropriate category..
I agree with this one 100%, but you should update your content on a regular basis (at least once per day). An active website seems to have a bit more authority with Google than those sites that just sit there.
Werd mah nerd. I can't tell you how much of a difference it made to my site (even after a very short time) when I started updating daily. Now I'm off to do just that, and then continue chasing down those top quality, high PR links.
It's odd, but the PR on my sites that I update daily hasn't gone up, but my SERPs are WAY higher. Google loves that fact that the website is growing and evolving. (and high PR links NEVER hurt either )
I would be careful regarding article submission. Articles are a great way to advertise your site and get links, however due to Google's duplicate content penalty you have to be careful. My adivce is, if you can put your articles on your own site then do so first, then wait 4-6 weeks for search engines to spider and index the articles. After this I would then only submit to the main article sites, Isnare, article alley and Ezine. Be careful to only use your own unique content, do not be tempted to copy other articles. Forum signatures are good for advertising your site, I am not sure they have a lot of weighting in regards to links. Linking to on theme sites is very useful. The trouble with link building is ... When starting out it is difficult to build links without paying, however once a site is established it becomes much easier. Just my own thoughts, good thread though.
The problem is with web designers Most web designers have a good understanding of SEO however when they design sites they do not implement good SEO principles. This can be for numerous reasons. The client may not be happy to pay for something they don't understand. The web designer may want the client to return at a later stage to get some SEO work done The designer does not understand basic SEO principles. People using our web design services are fully briefed as to the aspects of SEO. Websites are built with management tools specifically with SEO in mind. However until the whole business is regulated properly 70% of people will pay good money to get a poor website designed, that will never get off the ground. Most people learn the hard way, which is a crying shame.
I have one great article which can help you a lot. It is my Link Building Tips and Resources article. This article is also sticky thread http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=224828
