I've been wondering about ways to make a link more effective and thought about using the "title" attribute to carry a keyword string. Does anyone have any idea if this would be at all helpful, or would it be considered spam? Or, as I suspect, is it completely useless?
I believe that if the text around the link contains your keywords - and the link uses your keywords as anchor text - then this helps.
I've just read a few different articles on the subject and have to say I'm more confused now than ever, but I think I have the solution. Using title attributes in elements, be it a link or any other tag, in the way they are intended to be used per the standards may or may not be of benefit in SEO, but they are surely not of detriment if used correctly. Having said that, I must assume that a fair number of title attributes used correctly and in context would inevitably include pertinent keywords and in the case of some search engines would have to be of benefit. I think the key here is the same as for pretty much everything else: It may be helpful, but not if you use it to keyword spam the bots. I'm going to have to change my implementation of this.
Yes it really helps if you have keywords in your anchor links, google SEO friendly urls and read more.
Yes, everyone knows the anchor text of a link is critical from an SEO standpoint. What I'm talking about here is using the title attribute to include an associated keyword string. This is not a sentence that includes keywords, it's a standard comma delimited keyword string like you'd find in a meta tag. My concern is that this practice might be viewed as spam by the SEs. When Googling "SEO Friendly URLs" what I get is a bunch of stuff on rewriting them. This is good info, but I've already done that. I want to maximize the value to the customer of each link they place in my directory. I'm hoping to get some definitive info on this title attribute idea.
Title is good for making people click that link, it's like an extra impulse. Other than that i dont know of any seo benefits. Maybe someone know and share with us.
