So I posted a while back about our pixel site (www.smashmyviper.com) and got a lot of good feedback from some of you guys...so I thought I'd post an update. Although we are far from a million dollars, we have raised over $6,000 so far in about a month. We just launched the video for our craziest stunt yet where we covered the Viper in peanut butter, jelly, and a 10lb bag of feathers: http://www.smashmyviper.com/v/20060124.php You can see that the implementation of the advertiser that paid for that is a great way for them to market IMO, and we are really surprised that we haven't had more sales so far. Our traffic has been pretty good, but could always be better of course. We did the press release (that I posted here before it went live for opinions), but honestly only got one article in the Washington Times from that....and that's really it. So at this point we have to continue using word of mouth techniques, and hopefully it continues to grow. One interesting thing, if you followed the whole million dollar homepage ordeal, Imal Wagner (MDH's PR person) got in touch with us and is interested in working with our site (even though denying work for over 200 other pixel sites). So that was a bit of a pat on the back, and a reassurance that our idea is in fact good. Anything else that you guys recommend we can do to get more media attention and traffic? All of your advice has been much appreciated! Oh and if you guys have a second, please shout and digg these http://www.shoutwire.com/comments/3909/Peanut_Butter_Jelly_Dodge_Viper_With_a_Side_of_Feathers http://digg.com/links/Peanut_Butter_Jelly_Dodge_Viper_With_a_Side_of_Feathers
Wow... you must be so proud... Reminds me of those tards that eat live snails or stuff like that to break a world record.
I'm assuming you have not read the original post nor even took the time to understand what the site is about before making those comments. Being that we're in the marketing forum and you think you're so clever, feel free to explain why you think it's not a good idea. I would much rather have constructive criticism than useless time wasting comments like yours.
Why is this in the B/S/T - Services forum? Interesting site though. A new twist on what has quickly become an oversaturated idea. Nice.
I have no clue....I originally posted in marketing...when I made my original post about a month ago about the site, a lot of people were interested and giving a lot of feedback....So I thought people would like an update. A moderator must have moved it here, and I really have no idea why.
Maybe because the sole goal of your site is the sell adspace? So you are offering and promoting your service, hence it going in B/S/T. If someone else posted it, it might have been correct to fall under the Marketing Discussion header, from you it's self-promo which is fine as long as it's in the right forum.
cmon now guys beneath the appearence of a horrid idea there is actaully somthign that if done right could make the guy alot of money. but if your already doign damage to your car, and your only 6k up... perhaps you should put that 6k into a tv commerical, perhaps you should back out while you can before those SMV girls just end up laughing at you and your broken car.
Although 6K isn't as much as it sounds...THere is a lot of PR involved plus actual damage etc. 6K is great if its just handed to you but there have to be a fair amount of expenses involved.
Even though you guys are totally out to make a buck (although what's wrong with that), the whole thing is pretty funny ... yea, pixel pages are soooo overdone these days, but I give you guys major bonus points for a clever twist on it. And hey, hot cars and hot babes smashing 'em - what more could you want! ;-) Your video production is pretty decent ... and I dugg/shout'ed your stories ... and too bad you don't live in Colorado as the HULK would love to go cruising with you guys - maybe consider something like the picture below as a way to generate buzz.
Another twist is on the concept is http://www.moviesquares.com/ - where advertisers can win an original Star Wars script.
SMV is one of the rare pixel websites I track. It is the most pro one with a lot of PR around, a big team, video and more. They do everything to be successfull so should they be.
You left off hot babes ... ;-) Yea, as I said earlier, some nice video production by these guys with good soundtrack.
Members of the team, aren't they? BTW I just sold my SMV shares at alexadex.com and bought some of my own and of a few other pixels websites.
