In March 2006, John Mearsheimer and Stephen Walt, academic dean of the Kennedy School of Government, published a working paper The Israel Lobby and U.S. Foreign Policy and an article The Israel Lobby in the London Review of Books on the negative effects of "the unmatched power of the Israel Lobby". They define the Lobby as "the loose coalition of individuals and organisations who actively work to steer US foreign policy in a pro-Israel direction". The articles generated considerable media coverage throughout the world, replete with claims of anti-Semitism and counter-claims of intimidation.

Does the Israel Lobby in America have too much power?

Is it damaging Americas national interests?

The authors of a new book " The Israel Lobby" think it does.

Stephen Walt tells Stephen Sackur that US policies in the middle east have been dictated by the power of the Israel Lobby and they have not only damaged America's interests but Israel's interests too.

Israel is constantly battling for its own survival. Why does it have to be this way? Why can't the followers of the religion of peace leave Israel alone? You don't have to be an Israeli supporter to see that no country in the world is harassed more than Israel.

And you don't need to be not-an-israel supporter to see that there is an 800pound gorilla carrying Israel on its shoulders.

...Ughh maybe becase they stuck a flag in the middle east on someone elses turf and called it their own? And like that wasn't enough they started kicked people that had been there for thousands of years away from their land? Are those strong enough reasons for people to be a little pissed off at you about? Or do you want some more.
