I do not like what iPhone and now iPad are doing to mobile computing. Increasingly, what we're seeing is that the base of these devices is not an operating system which you can do things in, but a screen full of apps and a store (run by Apple) for finding new apps for specific purposes. Obviously people like this format a lot, given the massive popularity of iPhone apps and what I can only imagine will be a success story for iPad and large-format apps as well. I'm worried that this focus on apps is going to transition into the next generation of operating systems, where Apple OS 11 might not even be a desktop-format OS but some stupid app launch bar like iPhone and iPad (can't you see them pulling something like that?). I don't have a problem with iPhone using this system, since it's a phone, but I don't see why iPad doesn't just run native OS X. I'd buy it in a heartbeat if it did, but I'm not interested at all in the limited mobile Safari and ridiculous AppStore market.
