Hi. I hope I may get reviews for The Infinity Program, a general discussion forum I run as a hobby. The main style of my forum was modified so that the headers, banner, time stamps, and several icons/markers are blue. As for the icons/markers, the ones that have been modified so far are forum_new, thread_hot, and thread_hot_new. Also, the background was recently changed to blue after someone who reviewed my forum at another forum talked to me about contrasting colors. Long story short, several shades of the same color may compliment each other well, but that doesn't mean that they should. The argument, if I understood him right, was that contrasting the background to the foreground would focus the reader's eyes on the content in the foreground. In any case, I'm interested in what you, as a first-time visitor and experienced forumer, think about the forum in general. Regards, Kevin
Another change that was recently made was the addition of an "Article" page. Since the forum is general discussion, I have no particular focus for the articles. The idea is that the write-ups should be of a certain quality (that requirement is left intentionally vague), and if there's no category already up for it, one will be set up if it's accepted. So far, there's five articles by me (two for coding or management (which includes the one linked to in my signature), one for political science, and two for electronics), and a comics-related one by my friend. I also messed with the look of the Article page. For one, all the sidebar blocks are aligned to the right to give more space to the title and first few sentences of each article. Also, I removed the submission button on the Article page and instead opened an Article Submissions sub-forum where articles may be looked over before being seen.
Hi. Thanks for the response. Do you mean the overall color scheme, or do you mean certain elements of it, or certain areas? For example, maybe you don't think the background color should be the same as the header colors? What do you suggest?
In an effort to make my forum more accessible, I added one of the mobile styles freely provided at vBulletin org. However, it does not, at this time, force anyone using a mobile device to use it; for that, I would need to use an add-on which detects mobile devices and forces the person using one to a style. My concern is precisely that a guest or member would be forced to that style. If anyone here is using a mobile device, I would very much appreciate feedback on the mobile style, which may be selected using the drop-down style selector near the bottom of the forum. Also, if anyone wants to comment on whether or not I should force the style, I'd appreciate that, too. A minor stylistic change was made to the index page of my forum; i.e., I added a redirect icon that I think better fits in with the icon set. In this case, my concern is that it may be "too" gray, especially on the top half, when compared to the other icons. Maybe it's just me? Also, should I increase the font size for my main style, or is it fine as is? I would like to have a font re-sizer, as phpBB3 does, but there isn't such a modification I'm aware of for vB3 that is cookie based (i.e., saves the setting so you don't have to re-apply for each page load). For now, I added a new entry to my "Guide" (aka "FAQ/NSFAQ") titled "Can you make the forum content easier to read?" The "Guide," by the way, is my customized FAQ, which I've linked to the menu near the top of my forum. I recently did a lot of editing to it, and added several entries. To end, here is a recent screen shot of my forum: Regards, Kevin
Hi, guys. Thanks to the talent of my fellow administrator, Saint, background images were designed for the two styles being used at my forum, Enlighten and Greenfox. Does anyone here like it? Does anyone here think it's a distraction, or otherwise doesn't look good? Regards, Kevin
