Interesting read. I had forgotten just how bloated seochat was with ads etc.

I would have to question your comments on the rate of link growth. Sure back in the late 90's, early 00's sites wouldn't necessarily have many new inbound links per month, but as the internet has grown, what looked artificial to the SE's then probably isn't seen as artificial now. The growth of forums just like DP and social networking/linking has added new homes for large volumes of links.

The SE's have also grown and now moreso thean ever determine link 'context'. For instance, forum signatures aren't going to have much value SE-wise, the SE's see them for what they are - forum signatures. If I wrote post after post containing 100's of links to my site then they would be identified in a spam context. Identified as spam links could lead to penalties.

Does anyone consider forum signatures spam? (not a rhetorical question :) )

I would think that context is the key to whether or not a link is natural or artificial. So large numbers of links can be natural if they appear in the right context.

Ya seochat does not understand less is more  I am just an author there on occassion....they didnt ask me about how the pages looked,,,,had they you would see less mess lol....

I made mention in an early post in this thread that the net has grown and as such the amount of links accquired safely should grow too......but as you probably have seen there are those trying to get 100s if not 1000s of links per week for Google. That's bound to hurt more than help though.

I will also agree the search engines (google really) do see things in context. They also understand things...such as ecom retailers will have pages that look the same page to page and contain much of the same content...in the search engines eyes this is not duplicate content but how retailers sites are apt to be....

Same with a forum...being a forum the sig links are going to be repeated....

however those sig links will count just once...no matter what the keyword term, used I believe.....

The other issue is the threads roll off into the sunset at times and so to your sig link......so here you cant really hurt yourself...but neither can you help yourself much either .....(yourself being anyone & everyone)

Google does look at the c-class of the server and would, I think, count only one link of value coming off the server to the same site. Otherwise they would continue to lose the link spam battle....

Reciprocal links are of little value....if not from a relevant website then there is even less value...(if thats possible)

Any SEO knows not to submit to any search engine...

Almost impossible to do now unless your keywords are nashint...gazzook....orgleg....etc

Recommending people to worry over search engines that provide less than 2% of the available traffic from the SERPs????

It would have been better to say use these to list your site if only for the link value.

Otherwise some good tips thought rehashed for the 10,000th time ....
