The importance of domain

Hi, sorry for the noob question, i have a tumblr blog and i was wondering what are the advantages of buying a domain.

 

I don't even understand this question. Aren't the advantages of having a domain obvious? What COULD you do without a domain?

 

Sorry if i didn't make myself clear.
My question is what are the advantages of buying a domain and not using the default xxxx.tumblr one?
Should i expect better SEO results?

 

No difference. If you are not a business then it's mainly for vanity purposes.

If your blog is already successful there is no reason to buy a domain name unless your trying to brand it further. SEO results are not a big issue really. If you buy a new domain you will have to start SEO all over again.

 

Domain looks more professional, and often easier to remember.
