hello, I was planning to remove the entire health category from my directories. All i get in those categories is enhancement pills stuffs! all sort of spams I have put up some guidelines, for the submitters, but still am getting a lot of those submission! I call my directories "family friendly" but if i approve those sites, then the directories will not remain family friendly! also it wastes a lot of review time aswell! and it those submissions are paid or featured, then it takes even more time in doing the refunds! So, what's you take on it, do you accept those sites. those strange pills and enhancement stuffs, is the health category bothering you aswell?
I just don't accept them - not sure I would remove the Health category, maybe just delete the listings you prefer weren't listed and don't accept those types of sites in the future. Having them listed invites similar submissions
yep, when i started my dir, i accepted one 'acne',.....what ever that is, and in the next couple of days my website was swarmed with all acne websites accross the web why cant they give those pills to themselves, and get a life!
I too don't accept those sites. There is option of delete in directory admin, and refund in Paypal. And as CReed said, if a site owner sees similar site in the category he too submits it thinking that you accept that kind of site. But removing the whole health section is not good. There are many quality categories with health
My Health and Business > Health categories are very quiet. I think this is down to filtering certain words. It's also very handy to have a feature that lets you delete all submissions that come in with a certain IP or email in one swoop. Most spam that I get in this section tends to come from one source at a time, maybe 30 sites all on the same health-related topic. So I won't be getting rid of my health categories. But it does surprise me that there aren't more decent health websites out there.
I wouldn't delete a whole category, especially if it has decent subcats, my Health category has 32 subcats, theres nothing in there thats anywhere near those pill sellers, i wont even list someone just talking about them.
ya, health is an important, better keep it, i guess! anyways, for the last month or so it was really a hard time deleting those entries! on free directories the submissions are huge, and most of the submissions was on the health categories!! anyways, i searched and removed! i think no more pills stuff is listed on the directory! hopefully it will stop now
with my one site which is niche I do take medication sites but try to stay away from male enhancement type sites and most of them are submitted by the same main company which is /http://www.gene.com/ just using different submitters
Google, Yahoo and all the others index all sorts of crap, since they're not directories. It's down to your definition of "family friendly", which is a bit of a grey area. But most people would not consider male enhancement, penis enlargement, and other medication that's mainly aimed at improving your sex life to come under that category. There's also the unrelated issue of the safety of these websites: are they providing medication without prescription? And how easy is it to check they are legit? Sometimes it's easier not to link out to sites like this at all, then to take the risk of linking to somewhere that may harm your visitors.
Theres the fact that the pills dont work in the first place, i once chatted on irc with someone who was making plenty of cash selling all those types of pills. Someone asked him if they worked, and he replied of course they dont, he didn't care, he just raked in the money from the foolish. Im many cases their counterfeit drugs and the drugs are supplied by criminal gangs who have dirty temporary setups, they dont get them directly from GSK. Indirectly your supporting them by accepting the sites.
Hello... thx submitted my BULK CONDOMS website to your "reproductive health" catagory Just Kidding.... thx malcolm
Why refund? It woud be one way of getting the message across. So true and I suspect a little too close to home for some.
Just a note from the other side of the fence here. I have a quality site about epilepsy which I submit to directories from time to time. As a general rule, I don't waste my time submitting when a directory has too broad of a category structure (like Health > Conditions and Diseases with no further categorization) and features listings about mesothelioma. It's not the neighborhood I want to have associated with my site.
actually directory owners hate sites that sells pills etc stuff! if your site is providing information about any disease then it's all right, but if you are selling pills to cure the disease then am sure it won't be accepted. Though, information about "bulk condoms" are not all that welcome!
Have you considered contacting the directory editors and requesting they create an appropriate subcategory? I know that we don't like to have empty categories and usually generalize until we have sufficient listings to create subcategories with more than just one or two listings.
