There is two name, those who come in our mind. Sir Don Bredman and SR Tendulkar. I have not seen Bredman's game. So for me, Sachin Tendulkar.

    Bradman & Tendulkar

I would propose two names for this position. If i should choose only one then its the later.

It is difficult to compare players of different generations. However Sachin had to face faster bowlers big spinners and also better fielders. Yet he managed to create record after record. So in my opinion Sachin Tendular is the greatest cricketer of the new generation.

Hard to assess Bradman vs Tendulkar given the amount of cricket played nowadays compared to the 1930s and 40s as Vijay says. However I don't agree about faster bowlers and bigger spinners of the ball. Bradman had a smaller bat, less protection and uncovered pitches to bat on. He also had few cheap runs as the number of test playing nations was smaller then.

I'd chuck Gary Sobers into the melting pot as well. A great batsman, brilliant slip and outfielder, could bowl genuine pace, swing and spin.

Sachin Tendulkar will definitely become the greatest after he retires. Sachin has achieved a great height which even was accepted by the great Sir Don Bradman itslef. His records speaks for himself and none can break his records like double century in an odi and many more.

The greatest player ever is Mark Waugh from Australia, Because of high batting average and with good bowling economy, and he has won most matches for his team.

177 tests vs 52 doesn't really tell the story though does it?

    Sachin test average = 56.95
    Don test average = 99.94

    whereas that does

Going to weigh some Australian opinion in this thread.
Undoubtedly??? Bradman doesn't cast any doubt what so ever... really?

Kevin Pieterson you have to be joking.

The best test batsmen I have ever seen is Tendulkar, Steve Waugh and Brian Lara.
The best ODI batsmen I have ever seen, and this is going to sound very bias but is Michael Bevan.
Best bowler ever is Shane Warne... and he is a real pain in the ass to face in stick cricket
