The Great Chitika Exodus of Late 2005

    Well is has begun.

People on SitePoint are reporting up to a 75% cut from unaudited to audited revenue from Chitika.

So people are dropping like bugs off a bug zapper that just got turned on :D

The "good news" is they tried to ease the pain by announcing the ability to use alternate URLs to catch non-paying impressions. Unfortunately I don't see how thats gonna stop them from robbing you blind with audits but hey.. :)

I'm going to replace mine right now with YPN and wait for the dust to settle.

Obviously they're going through growing pains. I'd be surprised if all the people who say they are quitting Chitika actually do. While it'd suck to lose 50-75% of your revenue, there aren't really that many alternatives right now, and some money is better than no money...

What Chitika is doing is really annoying and frustrating. I hope they sort it out real quickly.

I won't be dropping them just yet though because: a) I am doing really well with them and b) even if I lose half the revenue, I would be making a tidy sum - I'd be pissed off as hell, but I would make still decent money.

Any inside news Oziii? They seem to talk to you quite a bit.

Once I saw how unprofessional their publisher stats pages looked, I kind of figured these guys weren’t as good as everyone was saying at the beginning of the month.

I guess I'll just have to see how much they take away from my earning, I probably shouldn't have moved half of my ads over to them this month.

With the introduction of the alternate URL function, I'd expect future audits to not be so bad since it filters out some of the non-paying stuff...

Yeah, I'm on the fence about dropping them, because I do like the system they have.

For me to have like 44 clicks, and they say 4 clicks are only valid, that really irks me, and I almost feel scammed. I have no way to check, you just have to trust chitika, and that's iffy for me, because i know my traffic is quality daily traffic, and me giving up those spots to Chitika, it's valuable web real estate. So i do feel a bit ripped that so much revenue was cut.

Hopefully, just like Chitika adapted to the retailers with the appearances mid stream, they'll figure out something to better filter these things.... right now something seems definitly askew.

I'm glad I'm not the only one.

hmm, after looking into this I don't think I have much to worry about since 80% of my traffic is from the USA / canada.

I'm sitting on the fence for another month to see what happens here. In the meantime I'm going to concentrate on adding good content until a good alternative comes along.

Does anyone have a URL to the MSN ads beta? :D
I know al about YPN but I'm not a US resident so they are out for me until they open up to the rest of the world.

i agree... a bird in hand is better then 2 on bush..... consider chitika just as your side money... if you are just looking for chitika revenu then this could hurt a bit.... enjoy what ever you are getting.... after all its the only alternate that can somehow ( if not properly but ) compit adsense...

so my advice..... enjoy what ever u earn fianlly... dont burn your blood for what you dont get ;)

MSN doesn't have ads for publishers right now - the program is just for advertisers.

I bet they will improve those stats...

I would like to see audited and unautided stats side by site, and I want to see the percentage of income approved.

Since they didn't introduce the alternate ad URL until just now, we're gonna have to go through this entire scenario at the end of next month. By the end of January, I'll bet people won't be whining so much (assuming they use the alt-URL to filter out invalid ad displays).

So if you're "giving it another month", you'll be sadly disappointed then, too. Better give it a couple more. (assuming you aren't waiting on this money to survive)

I dont really see how adding default capability is going to keep them from taking what ever cut they want during the "audit" or for that matter decreasing the amount of "invalid clicks" you get.

So they show ads to invalid countries, get clicks, get paid for those clicks, then don't pay you?

They can still claim whatever amount of clicks they want are invalid.

How does this change anything? Am I missing something here?

Actually, there is an invite-only beta for publishers.

So there is already? That's great, at least now we know MSN is coming very soon with its own program. The more choices for us, the better.
