Google Places has become very important with local searches as the '7 Pack' is sitting above organic serches in many cases. Trying to get it to work can be easier said than done as google uses automation to make the link between your google places page and your website despite having the website url as the common dominator. Everytime I read a google response to why it isn't working with wait a while and it will come good I just know is won't! I was wondering how everyone else is going with Google Places?
I am still learning how to work on Google Places...but I believe it would be a very nice place for business.
According to me it depends on popularity of your domain, if your domain is poular enough then your url is included in local search result.
its all about the your inputs on your listings.. relevancy and details are important. The more detailed and relevant your text input the greater chance to get a good listings..
Having your address in the capital city for a business that operates that goes to the customers makes a massive difference!
I am having trouble myself getting a couple of sites ranked well in google places, so when you find out, let me know !
Everyone keeps saying you need to wait a month before the categories activate so I am hoping that is true. In the mean time I make sure I am following all of googles quality guidelines so there is no complications!
Google Places is a great way to get impressions, but there are some quirks with it, just as there are with standard search. Whenever an entry is updated, there tends to be some Google Dance action where it falls briefly off the results. This can happen for up to a week or two before it reappears in its old place. Other than that, I've found it to be a good resource to list on.
Yes, Google Places is a great tool, however it should be considered BETA because there are SO many on-going issues. The algo and rules constantly change too, so to stay on top you need to read the guidelines on a regular basis. I also read every post in the Google Places forum daily as that's the only way to stay on top of bugs and bug fixes. Also try to read the leading Google Places blogs as they always have Google Places news and tips.
