The idea of voting a site up or down makes the whole idea of a legitimate SE useless IMO. Soon instead of link farms or traffic buying sites, you'll see vote buying sites where people can up your query from all over the world. Not a very good idea.

However the option to vote or flag spam sites is really nice. Problem is that it can be abused fairly easily as well.

Who knows? Many people were reluctant to use google after getting used to altavista for soo long. Just my 2 cents.

It would be nice if G had a major competitor.

Too bad they'd probably just buy anyone out that ever became a threat.

MSN is a major competitor. Yahoo is a major competitor, yet Google beats all...

Hello I don't mind it however to make this search engine as big as google it will need input by users to rank sites. So if its going to be the Google killer it will need 2 things.

The first is the same amount of users as Google and the second is to have input by searchers because it may be this uniqueness that will sort it from Google.

How many of us are really going to use this search engine as your first call for searches and how many of us will do this site a favor and rank sites? Not me.

This site will have a small part to play however I can't see it being the Global number one search engine.

In design your taught one thing keep things simple and part of this is Googles success. I think this site is owned by an individual who may be using this forum as medium for advertising.

    Just my 2c.

    Joe

Wow do you remember them? Showing your age now. lol

Alatavista used to be the place to find anything on teh net when Yahoo were just serving up directory listings. Can you remember their yellow site?

Who know what the search engine industry will be like in another 10 years. The mind boggles.

    As of June, 2007
Provider Searches (000) Share of Total Searches (%)
    Google 3,906,877 52.7
    Yahoo 1,496,137 20.2
    MSN/Windows Live 985,706 13.3

I suppose you could say that Yahoo and MSN are major competitors, but 52.7% is a pretty dominant market share :)

Google Killer - Just goes to show how a well worded phrase can catch up - (and market your site).

That is only because neither of those companies focus on search as the core business the way google does. I doubt Google compares to either of them in other aspects of business. Look how diverse Yahoo's business model is, then imagine if all of that effort was concentrated on search. They have evolved past that model. Google makes an effort at this by buying up a bunch of different places, but since they do not fully integrate it or make the most of what they own, it's basically flushing cash down the toilet.
