The Google -50 penalty and other penalties

For my site, the homepage would appear for competitive terms, then dissapear, it just depended on what machine I searched on. Now it My homepage is totally off the radar and doesn't rank for anything. All my other pages are fine though. Has anyone else experienced this?

 

PR from 5 to 6. -50 for all positions in one day, still ranks 1st for domain name.

it is crazy that simply marketing your site well and being successful is grounds for a penalty. In my book Google are too powerful in the Search enginee business

 

You are too correct. I am waiting for Obama to have an excuse to take over Google, that would be the best way for them to keep track of all those right-winged extremists. Maybe Pelosi could get the bill through under the label of monopoly....

 

There's all kinds of Google (-) penalties like (-)30, (-)50, (-)950 and even the dreaded Index Exclusion

I'm always wondering after all your hardwork and time for SEO a single mistake can take your site doomed, by SEs. I believe they should be fair enough.

 

My site goamaze.com is penalized. Though google shows 900 pages are crawled which decreases by 50-60 weekly. I dont know what to do now. I am not getting a single person from google. Before i was getting atleast 3000 people to my site daily from google. this was so heartbreaking.

 

I truly feel a backlash against Google is coming. It is generally recognised as being to big for its boots now. Time for a new "cool" search engine to arrive? (and its not bing !)

I have an older site. Been around for over 5 years and has ranked on the first page of google in the number 6 spot for over a year for various search terms.

Then, about 2 weeks ago it feel down to page 4 so about a 30 decline in rankings. It climbed to page 3 then I saw it on page 1 again yesterday morning and now it is on page 5 so about a 50 decline in rankings and it is sitting there.

On Yahoo it is on page 1 in the number 2 slot for the same search terms and hasn't moved.

I do alot of article marketing and submit to EzineArticles, ISnare, and ArticleMarketer.com.

What could be the problem as I cannot find anything I have done wrong?

If there's one thing I wish, it would be that Google would let you know through webmaster tools if your site has a penalty or not.

Sometimes it can be so hard to tell if a site got a penalty or if other sites just moved ahead because of their link building.

Bing already has this feature, Google needs to follow.

We were doing far too well in the serps for a young site and although all of our marketing was above board i am told it was just too unnatural to be number one for so many terms.

 

The thing I really have a hard time understanding is that there are sites that have NOTHING to do with the keyword in our industry but are now ranking above us! That just doesn't make sense.
