The Future of Google Dominance

Will Google continue to take market share?

It seems as though being a powerhouse like google will only help them increase their market share of search. They are also spreading out in so many areas that their name recognition is getting greater and greater. I would not be surprised to See Google take a 90-92% market share within 4 years at this pace.

    Any opinions?

Does Yahoo or MSN have a chance?

MSN probably doesn't stand a chance, but I think Yahoo will hang in there for a while. Ultimately though I think some other search engine or technology will evolve that will overtake Google.

We need to stop thinking of Google as a search engine or even and advertising company (source of most of their revenue) and think of them as company that started as those things and is now looking to solidify itself as a company worthy of its market capitalization. This is why they are buying companies like Postini (email security for enterprises) and taking aim at Microsoft Office with their online documents.

They may hold onto search like Microsoft holds on to desktop software with Windows and Office but they will also expand as Microsoft has.

90 to 92% or what? I hope it never gets that high because it is not good for business to have one company completely dominate the market like that

Nobody can say of course, but at this moment it looks that Google will definitely stay for several years the market leader. The only current real opponent of Google at this moment is -I think- Yahoo. Though, Google is much, much bigger than Yahoo at this moment, so Google will maintain the major portion of the market for quite a while still.

I think, they have a change to make integration of some services which are still not available, but it will be possible to do it in the future - for example - remote disk space for all your storages, available from every location, even in cellphone (they trying to get into some telecommunication areas) and many other ideas which could be interesting.
The most important thing in what they do now is that, they are available in every part in the world, and they do really huge step into a real globalisation. Is this good or not? I can't judge now.

"Don't be evil" will turn into dr. Evil's: "Moehahahaha, I will hold the earth for ONE MILLION dollar's with my laser!" After a while a small fish will stand up (just as our good friend google has done, and a good friend it is..) and will give a shot for "world domination".

The thing is, Yahoo has dominated the internet for a long time, it was a household name... now if you want to find something on the net people will "google" it and don't "Yahoo" it.

So yeah, I think google will stay on to op the heap for a (long) time but it won't be forever; as long was we all use it, just like microsoft, it will keep on growing.. as long as "we" belief in it.

If Vista ever gains steam, Google won't see that much. Even if it does, I still can't see any search company getting that much of the market. There are too many countries, too many search engines and too many search terms.

They are spreading out to so many areas though. I think before 2010 we will see adwords for TV. If you look at some of the patents they recently files it almost looks like they have a plan for world dominance of basically every industry haha.
