I have a blog which is a subdomain of my regular site. ie. blog.mysite.com I'm thinking of closing down blog and moving its content back to my regular site.

The blog is been around for over a year and I'm trying to determine whether or not there is any SEO benefits in having one. Here is what I've noticed.

    1. You very rarely see a blog actually rank well in google.
    2. Most of the blogs and sites who actually pick up my blog articles are spammy adsense sites.
    3. Most of sites that utilize your blog content, will heavily utilize nofollow so you get no external linking benefit.

Aside from the being able to link back to your regular site with internal links, does anyone know of any more benefits.

1, Depends which keyword you are targetting. My blog is on the first page for keyword with 59.9m results. It also ranks well for some other small keyword/ phrases. Took me a year and half to get here though. Keep getting backlinks with chosen keyword as anchor text.

    3. Do the sites that utilize your content give you any traffic? Your blog can get some decent traffic and pass it on your main site.

I guess your choice to move the content to your main will be informed by how established and relevant your main site is?!
