Hi all, Im just wondering a bit if there will be a bright future for us affiliate marketers? It seems like IE8 will somehow not use cookies default? I also noticed in Google Chrome it was very simple to go into "stealth mode" and not accept cookies. If more and more people will start to use this, that will mean we will lose tons of affiliate sales. What do you guys think? Will they come up with new ways to track or will the whole affiliate business slowly die out? BR, Steffo
As I see nearly every website uses cookies nowadays and most of them don't even work correctly without cookies enabled. I don't think this can change so quickly. If the cookies are disabled by default in IE8, then most of the people will just enable it, so they can use their favorite sites.
there are more ways to track than cookies, you can track by IP, the session, and im sure many other ways. besides, like the guy above me pointed out, try browsing around with cookies disabled, see how far you get
sessions are still cookie based. I do agree that there are many other ways to track users besides cookies, and that cookies are not going anywhere for sure..
Thanks guys, this calmed me down. You are right that it is pretty messy to surf without cookies and i guess most people just leave them on. Still would be cool with other tracking methods that are 100% sure and maybe could remove cookie stuffing somehow. /S
Answer: INNOVATE. If you are being run out of the game and see no workable solution being offered by someone else....start thinking about what you could do to work around the problem....you could be the next dude known for selling his small company to blankblank.com for $90M Large!
