The freaking most ANNOYING writing mistakes found online

The stuff some people think is quality writing just astounds me. Honestly, some websites have so many errors that it just makes you wonder: "who the hell thought this was good?"

Here are some things I find most annoying:
    • Capitalizing random words
    • Not capitalizing any words
    • Overuse of italics
    • Random font sizes

I'm actually so angry at these forms of writing that I wrote a detailed blog post about six seriously annoying writing mistakes.

What do you think is the most insidious kind of writing mistake?

The times people use "your" instead of "you're" and "it's" vs. "its".

    Spelling "rogue" as "rouge".

Highlighting words using italics, font sizes, and capitalization can all be part of a sales pitch or very useful for SEO. You might capitalize and italicize the keyword you're optimizing to bring it to the attention of spiders for example. In a sales pitch, using strong or bold, using different fonts, different sizes and different colors can all make certain parts of the pitch jump out at readers.

I agree the tactics can be overused, but writing for the web isn't always the same as writing offline. This is a perfect example.

I Really can't see how Something like THIS could possibly

    CONVINCE
anyone of anything unless they were a complete idiot.

Which I suppose comprises most online buyers. Bolding a few key phrases and perhaps adding a message statement in bigger font can be good, but the average sales page is just a bunch of random s**t that I really can't believe acts as a sales page.

How about stop wasting your time getting annoyed about such small things. If a website has badly written content then stop reading it.

I guess it's a bit...odd when people mix up "there", "their", and "they're". Doesn't really anger me when I see it though.

There are loads of sites and blogs out there with pretty pathetic excuses for content. It doesn't really anger me but is just a shame that any given reader might be looking at their page instead of mine.

Shouldn't that be `not using their correct grammar'? Or is it a joke?

That's exactly what I think. I guess it's not really worth getting angry about, but it sure is frustrating.

Poor quality writing is what helps me pay my bills. If there weren't so many "writers" out there trying to market their tenuous grasp on the language, no one would need our quality article writing services.
As far as annoyance, my pet peeve is apostrophe abuse, especially using it to denote plural rather than possessive-something that was rampant at "education" university I attended. About half the students were training to be teachers, but you'd always see signs like "Visitor's must sign in" everywhere.
I do think allowance ought to made for a higher error count in electronic documents-they are produced faster, with fewer stages of review, and rarely checked as hard copy. And people are often quite intolerant of minor errors in forum posts...I usually have to edit at least once.
There is a difference between mis-typing and misspelling.
@ moneymoose-I also am bothered when "z" is used to denote plurals...people in glass houses shouldn't throw rocks.

The four mistakes which you have mentioned while starting the thread are mistakes which some careless people commit.

For other I agree grammar problems kill the taste of the content.

Ah, reading into my sig? I used the "z" to make it seem like I was less formal than others (which is true) but that's a good find ;)

Guess it makes me seem unprofessional (which I am).

gramer, grrammar, grammer - - - I think it's always GRAMMAR that haunts me. Italicized text, bulleted text and bold texts are all parts of SEO. You can't ignore them.

lol, considering what you wrote here. Its funny that this is poorly paragraphed and hard to read.
But the WYSIWYG editor in vbulletin is too narrow so I don't blame you, I hate it.
The should make have more width. :)
