I think you mean prizes unless we have to pay you $100 to participate. Best of luck although it seems most heavy hitters won't even consider a contest these days until its in the $1000's

You're right, I mean prize and I will fix it immediately. The contest is more for the fun than for the money. However, it is the first contest for images, first contest for a quotation and first contest on four search engines. IMHO, results will be very interesting.

Does anyone optimize for image search? I don't really see any advantage to ranking highly and I don't know how to optimize for an image search.

Yes some do. Many people search some images and then follow the link to see the image in its context. According to some stats I have seen, Google Images brings a similar traffic than Yahoo or MSN (strongly depends on the kind of website, of course).
    Something new to learn ;)
The Google Image Search is IMHO the most interesting part of the contest.

I realize that, but most people I talk to are annoyed at the traffic from image searches. I know you can escape from the frame and all that, but even with these tricks conversion rates are very poor for these kinds of searches IME.

I don't understand why they would be annoyed. They receive traffic and their full website is displayed. The difference is the visitor arrives first on an internal page but that can be dealed. IMHO, if the CTR is low, it is because there is no SEO. The visitors find an image that doesn't really fit. This is why it is time to use SEO for images too.

BTW, if they are really annoyed, why don't they disallow indexing of their images?

Would you mind sharing what kind of conversions you see on your image searches? For me it's below 1%. I allow Google's image bot in because it hasn't been a substantial drain on my bandwidth and 0.x% is still better than nothing.

I wouldn't mind to share but I don't have significative data yet.
The trackers I use don't make the distinction between google web search and google image search.

    Soon entering the last month.
The individual contests are going well, with the leader changing every second day. Some of the famous SEO'ers have joined, even if they have put limited effort.
OTOH, the forum contest is not a success. Could have been a lot of fun but it seems most SEO'ers prefer to compete individually.

Aren't subdomains considered as independant by Google?
I heard a new subdomain and a new domain are more or less the same in terms of indexing.

The main domain has a PR 5!! I made the page about a month ago!!! Lesson learned, don't make a sub-domain. Try a directory next time.
