the Forum Owners sick of Spammers thread

    First of all, I'd like to bring to my fellow phpBB admin's attention to: Admin Mass Delete Users.

    Admin Mass Delete Users is a must have for Forum Admins. Keeping up with spammers can be a full time job but this handy mod cuts down the time needed to barely two minutes per day.

    The admin_mass_delete_users.tpl file that needs to be uploaded to templates/subSilver/admin should also be uploaded to templates/your_installed_theme/admin

    It's what I call a "hackless" mod. There's only a few files to upload and you don't need to insert code into any existing pages.

    Quite simple to use. So damn quick! Easy to install...

    The purpose of THIS THREAD though is I'd like people to do is post the email domains that keep popping up frequently, ie: @mail.ru, @gawab.com and there are plenty of others.

    Post them here if you're seeing trends. This will help others recognize and stem the sign up rate of spammers at their forums.

    Personally I don't ban these addresses, as I suspect that if I do that they'll start using other email addresses that may take a while for me to cotton on to.

    Here's a few to get started...
    @mail.ru
    @fromru.com
    @4warding.org
    @mymail-in.net

    How to easily get rid of spam in forums:

    Use both captcha and a drop down menu with a answer for regstering.

    I didnt have a single automated registration since I started to use both, very happy about this.

    PHPBB3 seems to stop more spam than PHPBB2

    I haven't tried phpbb3 yet. Is it much work to upgrade from phpbb2? Do you keep the same database?

    The installer copies the information from the old DB to a new one.
