Starting a place to meet online.

Is there . . better than the above?

    Thanks in advance.

Yeah, dolphin is crap and while the devs at osdate are much more level headed; its not a very polished solution either. If you need a social network of sorts the pilot group has one as well.

I decided to go with pgdating for the site in my footer. It is hands down the best solution currently available.

Cue the dimwits with one post to pointlessly argue my position in 3...2....1

For what its worth I speak from 8 months of beating the crap out of other apps and about 7 years of e-commerce consultancy experience. Telling folks how to deploy things is what I do.

    hope that helps,

Hey, thanks for the quick reply.

Is there a top 3? Maybe an open-source / free version?

    Thanks again.

In terms of open source dating osdate is your best bet. The functionality is there but the last time I checked it was still a table laden mess.

If you have some code knowledge this is pretty good stuff as well http://elgg.org/

    hope that helps,

Is not getting Dating Pro going to hurt my business, and will it be anything to switch later [in terms of ease and whether or not members will "wtf"]?

Thanks again for the quick reply.

Well, that is a brand based question and fairly tricky to answer but its not typically a good idea to change something that drastically. Given the pgdating stuff is much more polished it is better to use right away or develop it with elg and stick with that.

You don't want to have to port over users from osdate to pgdating. You can however use a less expensive(branded) version of pgdating and update it to the open source version when you get some members, etc. In fact, I think they have monthly plans as well.

I have a few investors for my dating site so buying it was not an issue. It is fairly pricey, but for good reason. I am quite pleased with it thus far. The last pgdating update has some great features and pretty much will function like match or e-harmony out of the box now less a few minor marketing related tools.

Hey, what about PG Community Pro [in relation to Dating Pro]? Has anyone used this/these and can give a comparison?

I have not seen the community application yet but, all things considered, there is no reason for it not to be as sound as the dating application. There would not be a ton of framework stuff involved in making the change from one to the other on their end.
