A very interesting discussion and a curious thing I just noticed: Can we no longer add multiple quotes?
You can, but they don't (yet) span multiple pages... like you can hit Reply multiple times on the same page.
what the DP use is a really an intesting thing, i think it called XenForo and i really like it ^_^ but The VBulletin is and will always the best cause maybe in the first it's the most secure one of them and the most developed that doesn't mean that the security researcher will not find bugs but they always offer update and XenForo is not famous yet maybe in a few year and with that it will a traget for the attackers and researchers My Answer is nO
Ah got it I see from the poll, most agree with you. Nevertheless, it is also clear from the poll and the discussion that XF is on the right track to something big.
If Digitalpoint had revealed in 2011 that he would move to XenForo in the future I'd probably wouldn't have bought a vBulletin license (and might have bought XenForo instead). But now my forum users are used to vBulletin and moving elsewhere would kill the community.
You shouldn't do anything based on what others do... do what works best for YOU. vBulletin is still a good product and I'm sure it's the best choice for many sites out there. Just depends on what you need to be honest.
Yeah, that's right, but I had no idea about forum platforms back then but I noticed that large sites used vBulletin so I have bought one too.
Unless they take it up to beta 40 or more, it will keep on being buggy. They are pushing out weekly releases with 120+ bug fixes and still bug count is only slowly going down some. At the current speed of bug fixing, they need another 26 weekly releases to arrive at a bug free release. And that's before its released in the wild and all hell breaks loose. Multi-quote has a learning curve in XF and is confusing and could be seen as broken. This is definitely a weak point. its best to right click on the reply button and then copy-paste all quotes into a single post like I have just done. Not perfect, but at least it works.
Reputation comments Negative reputation Multiquote Better profile privacy Friends Albums CKEditor PM folders Message Tracking I dislike that the quick reply editor opens below the post you are responding to. Not really a function that vb had, but compared to IPB: a notification that someone has posted while you were writing your response and an option to load those post(s). That is a vital function. See who is browsing a forum / thread. Subforum listings Unless I am missing something: blogs.
No , Vbulletin is not end. Vbulletin is old company and have a lot of experience where Xenforo is new. Nobody can take the position of fast reply. I have already use Xenforo in other websites. And all are having the same problem. "The connection has timed out" etc is one of those error. Some of the webmaster move to Xenforo due to forum spam. But they forgot to test the SMF which is free. This time only, SMF is there which can stop spam either user use the BHM.
No, you don't. I can't count many times that on one of my niche sites, I've "sold" xenForo. As in, a few people have come to me to ask what forum software I use. So, when a big site transfers to a new software, and evangelize the software as the "king" of products... It makes or break the company or product in question. A big site like DP, chances are, this transfer spreads like a [viral] wildfire. Maybe it won't have a immediate effect, but in the long run, it's going to be real evident. Never mind that Internet Brands keep driving vBulletin down by releasing shoddy updates after shoddy updates... I mean, not even vB4 made them think "Okay, I think we need better quality software this time around." Then comes vB5 beta. Chances are, vB5 Gold will be the real "make or break" for the vBuletin brand. My point is, DP's transfer cannot be underestimated. A lot of brands have fallen even though that their brand is older than the other. Circuit City just closed it's doors, THQ just recently dissolved, and I'm sure I'm missing a lot.. but you get my point. The forum spam on xenForo can easily be solved by installing a plugin. I use xenUtilies, and I get next to no spam. I only have to remove a few spam sparingly. Not even once a week. Not even close.
DP switch to Xenforo because vbulletin give a stupid warning to DP 2 months ago Please check this thread https://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php/411157-Cease-and-Desist-for-digitalpoint-com
I run a medium sized forum, nothing like DP lol. But after seeing DP move over, I am seriously considering it. Vbulletin has lost my confidence completely, they only care about new sales, and new members, they do not give a SH*T about members like myself that has been using them for over 10 years!!!! They send out updates that can bring fairly large sites to their knees, I have often mentioned this and its like I am just some annoying fly pestering them! It's a shame I have been using them for so long and only until VB4 have I really started to doubt there intentions! I think I was a little stupid to go to vbulletin 4 to be honet as VB3 outperforms VB4 for fun!! The only one thing for me is that DigitalPoint make there own code changes, they make custom scripts, and they have the abillity to overcome such a massive move... until I know its completely bomb proof I will hold on... but believe me it won't be long until I do move away from VB!
The community like DP is moving to other software makes the difference to VB. I am wondering have they contacted DP on this? G!
