The Dreaded "While reviewing your account..." Email

So after being with Adsense since almost the first month today I got my first ever problem e-mail:-

"While reviewing your account, we noticed that you are currently displaying Google ads in a way that does not comply with our policies."

It's my own fault really, a rushed site that I did as an experiment into a new niche years ago and just left to expire caused the problem (Rubbish content). I should have removed the ads when there was no traffic but I just forgot about it. Funnily enough Google have only flagged it 1 month after the website was turned off and the domain set to expire.

The problem I've got is that I operate a number of sites and my Adsense earnings are substantial. They're a large part of my self employed income. I'm crapping myself about my other websites, they are all high quality, original content and I've had nothing but good feedback from Google up to this point. But I can't help worrying.

So what I'm wondering is how common are these warning e-mails? And if the worst comes to the worst are there any worth while Adsense alternative out there?

    Too common in my opinion.
However, I don't thing google does too much about it, just trying to protect their business.
On the other hand, they should have a gradual response, not ban domains at first issue

What way were you displaying the ads that were against their policies?

Here is what you should do.
    1. Take care of the problem.
    2. Email Google and let them know that you have taken care of the problem. Be honest about why you did what ever you did.
    3. Relax and don't lose your sleep.

Thanks for the feedback. I assume the problem was to do with the page content not so the much the way the ads were. A few years ago I found a very strong keyword in the holiday niche and built a few pages of content around it - for a little while I got a ton of MSN traffic but then the keyword became less valuable (it was typo based). I just forgot about the domain and let it expire as rubbish. I think the problem was with the content being typo based it didn't read well!

I've replied to Google to let them know about the situation and that the problem hsa been fixed (that domain doesn't exist anymore). Typical that the one time I dip into the world of cr@p content this happens! I'll certainly not be bothering again, not worth the trouble for a few dollars.

did they actually tell you which site they are referring to?
there are millions of sites with crap content / PLR articles and keyword focussed articles, I'm surprised that is the issue.
do you have ads next to images; misleading headings above ads; adult content etc anywhere?

They told me the domain. There was nothing on there dodgy in terms of the Adsense layout. 1 250x250 square in a floating div (left justified) in the first paragraph and 1 set of link ads on each page. No images around the Adsense, nothing even remotely dodgy at all other than the content which was not the best.

The way I see it is there are millions of dodgy sites out there that go against Google's quality guidelines but Google only have so many manual reviewers. Maybe it was just my time to get reviewed.
