The DREADED letter...

    Hello,

While reviewing your account, we noticed that you are currently displaying Google ads in a manner that is not compliant with our policies. For instance, we found violations of AdSense policies on pages such as http://chantalstainedglass.50megs.com/.

Publishers may not place Google ads on pages that violate Google’s webmaster quality guidelines (http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?answer=35769#quality). While we've included the following excerpts from these guidelines, we recommend that you take the time to review them in their entirety.

        * Make pages for users, not for search engines.
        * Don't employ cloaking or sneaky redirects.
        * Don't load pages with irrelevant words.
        * Don't create multiple pages, subdomains, or domains with substantially duplicate content.
        * Don't participate in link schemes designed to increase your site's ranking or PageRank.
        * Avoid "doorway" pages created just for search engines, or other "cookie cutter" approaches such as affiliate programs with little or no original content.
        * Avoid tricks intended to improve search engine rankings. A good rule of thumb is whether you'd feel comfortable explaining what you've done to a website that competes with you. Another useful test is to ask, "Does this help my users? Would I do this if search engines didn't exist?"
        * If your site participates in an affiliate program, make sure that your site adds value. Provide unique and relevant content that gives users a reason to visit your site first.

As a result, we have disabled ad serving to the site.

Your AdSense account remains active. However, we strongly suggest that you take the time to review our program policies (https://www.google.com/adsense/policies ) to ensure that all of your remaining pages are in compliance.

Please note that we may disable your account if further violations are found in the future.

    Sincerely,

    The Google AdSense Team

    Issue ID# 535702[/b]
    Code (markup):
    =========================
Full disclosure: I do have plenty of title tags on the front page, and also links to my internal pages as spiders aren't picking them up from the IFRAME menu bar easily.
    =========================

Really. Google wants to ban my site for this? Interesting. First off I suspect one very nasty and vituperous competitor ratted me out, because I don't think Google looks for such petty stuff on its own.

I am forced to make an economic decision, that is, do I value my ranking more than my AdSense revenue?

The answer is, I value my ranking more because that is my highest ranking site, and it carries all other sites in my network. I cannot give that up.

I am going to place a variety of ads on the site, ebay, Amazon, and I am waiting for news from Tribal Fusion. No more AdSense.

Such is life; I guess that's just going to be one sharp downtick on the race to ZERO. As more and more users learn to block Google ads with Firefox's ad blocker, become blind to them, and the economy is going down the toilet, I slowly begin to accept that the AdSense publisher as a means to make a living is dawning to an end.

I can't address your problems with Google, but I did look at your free graphics site. You have some really nice backgrounds and textures there for free. Good job. I'm going to post your link in some other forums.

    Good luck. - Russ

I got the same letter today.

It is for one on my sites that I rarely checked.

I went to the site and was shocked to see that someone had hacked my MySQL database and added a lot of crap content to it...pharmacy, adult content etc.

Google disabled ads on that site....:(.

Do these kind of things happen often? Because I'm just starting with the whole adsene thing (Usual dream of making good money off a good site)...but I've been hearing lots of "Horror Stories" around here of people hacking your site's codes and getting you banned on purpose...so...do these things happen all the time? or is this relatively rare?

I think it's relatively rare. Keyword is 'relatively' as in 'relative to what exactly?'

It is true that it's quite easy for your competitors to put you out of business should they be inclined to do so. There's nothing you can do to stop them.

I've been put out for something very, very trivial and innocuous compared to what else is going on on the internet.

I was shocked at first, but now I'm moving on.

It's a pity that YPN is still lagging behind so sorely and is still not accepting Canadian customers. Their motto is 'beta forever.'

But if you check your Clicks daily and see that theres a suspicious ratio...can't you quickly E-mail google and tell them about your problem? Surely they're aware of this phenomenon?

It's not about 'invalid clicks' this is about their site quality requirements. There are other threads about invalid clickery. I'll say this, if your site has a lot of traffic, you might never be able to detect it yourself.

Where did you have the Adsense code? Was it inside or outside the frame? Maybe it was a matter of there not being enough content on the same page where the Adsense code was installed.

But isn't that a serious hole in AdSense? Are google even aware of the problem? and how totally unfair it is? (Please no-one tell me "The world isn't fair" :p )
Are google trying to somehow fix this? and maybe get a more sophisticated system?

I got the same letter from them for one of my sites, I think I know which term I violated the duplicate content which I didn't even realise was in their T&C's mind you they are so long I got fed up and skimmed it. I have removed the adsense code from 50 sites as a result but when I have addressed the issue will put them back on line. My concern though is what if its a different reason. How can I check?
