I have been asked this a few times. It seems some on here do not fully comprehend the difference. One for sure are the rates between the two. A copywriter can easily make $100,000 U.S. per annum while the article (content) writer usually accepts $25,000 per annum, perhaps up to $35,000 if experienced with a large, regular clientele. So what is the difference and why the large disparity between the earnings? Well simply put a copywriter writes for the sake of promotional advertising or marketing. He/she will understand the inner workings and the ins and outs of the advertising world. As a rule it is often corporations that will hire the copywriter and money is no deterrent in regards to the contract. As to the content (article) writer it is entertainment that is asked for. The client wishes to entice or attract his/her online audience and usually cannot afford to pay high rates especially considering what is asked for. Please feel free to add to this thread if you are a client, an article writer or a copywriter. Also if you are none of the above and just want some info, ask away or simply post a comment. I hope this clears up the difference between the two definitions of writers.
Basically a copywriter comes up with three-word slogan and makes more money than content writer who creates 1200 word articles.
There is actually some truth to what you wrote. But the copywriter being more trained/skilled than the content writer deserves it....or?
The content writer is more investigation and publisher of content in website, copywriter have more skill and review all details
You pretty much said it all Spoiltdiva. (Haha. All this time I was reading your name as Spotdiva and just noticed my mistake.) I can't really add anything but maybe I can voice the difference in a different way: A content writer tickles the pleasure nerves. The copywriter tickles the want nerves.
Quite true as the copywriter has taken more courses and has far more training than does the content writer. @JoeSpirit copywriting involves content writing but in a far more attractive form. This is where the training comes in. Copywriting also seeks to achieve more than content writing as it's aim is to sell the brand, products or services. In short a content writer is a writer end of story, while a copywriter is a writer and a salesman/woman.
It's very simple to understand the difference between content writing & copywriting. Content Writing: Content writing is part of the web, Where most of the content just works for website or blogs & It's easier to understand. writing content for a website or Blogs is content writing. Copywriting: Copywriting is a website or blog content which have official rights & others can't use a Copywriting content. So this is just different to understand content writing and copywriting.
Copywriting is marketing content. Copyright is protected content (which is how I read the way you refer to copywriting in your comment). Copywriting is the art of persuasion. All content is copyrighted based on specified laws.
I have to disagree with you on this. Copywriters are skilled in the journalistic, marketing, promotion, advertising end of it, and just about everything else. Content writers are usually talented people.....while copywriters are talented and trained. It's sort of like comparing a legal secretary to a lawyer. The secretary knows a bit, but the lawyer knows more. @Orol...I'm glad that this thread has been helpful. @SusanaP...Sorry for missing your comment earlier but I do believe you have blurred the lines a bit on the two, but thanks for your post.
Copywriting is about using words and language to convince readers to take an action, whether it's buying a product, downloading a report, or engaging with a company. ... Copywriterscan specialize in product copy, SEO copy, or direct response advertising, and some will focus on writing copy for specific industries.
I agree with what you wrote, a copywriter is a specialist that is adept at getting a promotional or advertising message across effectively. Most writers are simply researchers or spinners who have fair/good writing skills but do not have training in selling as a copywriter has.
The great distinction between content writing and copywriting lies in the purpose of writing it. Copywriting means writing for the sake of promotional advertising or marketing. The purpose of content writing is to entertain and entice the online audiences so they stay longer on websites and engage with the brand. That's what google says.
This is copywriting forum. This thread is about writing and writers. Here you are simply copying content from elsewhere. Perhaps you missed the point of this thread?
