Hello Dpers, a tricky one for ya, Wikipedia defines "Non-Commercial" as: "A non-commercial enterprise is work that values other considerations above and beyond that of making a profit. It differs from a non-profit enterprise in that seeking a profit is a part of their business, just not the main part. A typical example is art that is being sold, but where the artist has strict rules about what they will and will not do. These rules significantly decrease profits (sometimes creating losses), but allow the artist to retain his artistic integrity." SOURCE: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Non-commercial now my question is: As a website, how can a site be non-commercial?? Keep in mind, that does NOT mean non-profit. Thanks,
Its simple . Sites like hostgator google are commercial as they wont be in business unless they get some profit out of it. Next blogs, forums etc which are focused on sharing some information with the visitors and also display some ads just for paying their bills and use up the wasted space, are Non-commercial. And other sites like some linux websites and mozilla are Completely AdFree and anything from their websites are Non-Profit. Digital Point is a good example to explain the difference: The main page Digitalpoint.com is a commercial one as it serves the Business purposes. The forum on the other hand is a Non-commercial one as it is focused on helping the webmasters out there and also it displays ads on the top. When DP forum becomes completely adfree we can call it Non-profit
