I'm sure that this isn't the case on all keywords. So I say that SEO is not yet dead.

It is the first stage, covered all the main consumer products and reserves 4th or 5th postion for all induvidual products. Slowly they will move to all the major products/services.

Nah, Google would be even better if SEOs and Webmasters wouldnt ruin their SERPS. They should hate us but we shouldnt (on) hate them.

There was a time when Google was privately owned ethical company. Currently it is a corporate whore, which will go to any lows to make money.

Google has gotten so high up that they honestly don't care anymore about things such as this. They can simply tell you "If you don't like being second then how about not being on at all" and who cares if they're first obviously they will be after all it is their search engine.

As long as there is no competition they make the rules. If you don't like this, use other services, that's what they'll say. They make the rules for you and for me and for everyone using their service. We can't do anything at all.

If webmasters didn't exist Google didn't exist - very true but now how many webmasters would risk denieing google's bot from their websites and stop receiveing traffic from G and loose money ?

But every business is done with a prime aim of maximizing the share holder's wealth.

Corporate social responsibility etc etc comes afterwards....

The results shown by Google are relevant, reliable and possibly the best on the web. If it wasn't then it will fail right?

So you guys let google do what it wants, its perfectly allowed to. Large organisations and ethics don't usually mix. Illegal activities is a no no, this certainly is perfectly legal so no worries there.

I think google is providing better results than some half arsed affiliate websites on the net that appear no.1

Exactly. As a searcher, unless I was actually looking for shopping results (as opposed to information) those sites would be relatively useless to me. I would click on sites that gave me the information I was seeking.

Wikipedia has long been in the number one position in Google, too. It loses some clicks for the other sites, but once people get used to seeing it at the top, they are prone to look at other sites as well, especially if they are researching an answer to a problem they have or some such thing.

I'm not sure I understand your complaint. Anyone can list products in the Google base ( www.google.com/base ). If you're not, you should start doing it immediately.

It sounds less like Google is trying to monopolize and more like Google is trying to kill affiliate marketing. If they cater to the main commerce players, they won't have to pay affiliate commissions to thousands of webmasters, they can just pay one....Google.

I remember bringing this to the forums attention a couple of weeks ago. This has definitely annoyed me....If only more of the general public used other search engines......Companies like Yahoo or Live have loads of money, and need to invest in advertising....I always find that Yahoo returns the best searches for me anyway.
