The death of adsense

No - don't panic - I was just wandering - considering how many people use adsense as one of their main sources of income - what people would do if google suddenly announced that the adsense was being shut down forever.

Personally I think I would cry!

That's why it is essential to diversify and explore other income methods. Relying on one method will never succeed, as with any business model.

    They would do this.... why?

It would hurt them, and they know it would hurt hundreds (thousands?) of self-employed designers, and even bigger companies.

Advertisers and publishers will move to another network and everything will be good again. AdSense may be the leader today but there are many other players out there.

i'm not saying they would do this, it is very unlikely they would. I'm just wandering ' hypothetically speaking' what everyone would do if they did.

Well, IF (and big IF...people are more likely to be banned than the entire program going defunct) I were faced with it I would switch to some other method. In the void that followed adsense, some of these other networks might get their act together and get quality ads out there. I haven't used ones like bidvertiser etc before because the ads just don't fit my site. Until something else came along that I thought wouldn't be a detriment to my site, I'd continue on at the same level of effort I did before there was an adsense...and a google.

Diversifying your online income from various streams is highly important. Use affilates as well as cpc models on your sites.

sorry Karan265, didn't mean to cause any offence! Just intersting how many people rely on adsense. Besides it can happen (I doubt they would ever shut the system down) but in that some people have had there accounts banned for no reason. All that hard work just gone - must be a horrible feeling.
anyway apologies again for creating a baseless thread.

Theres always gonna be somekind of online advertising, even more of it in the future so really stuff like this shouldnt scare anyone. Its true adsense is awesome because of the contextual stuff but it it goes tits then something else will take its place.

and it is said for a reason... however having adsense as your sole income isnt incredibly risky in my opinion, as long as you have a quality site and follow TOS. Always have a plan b such as YPN though.

I think AdSense (and similar programs) are safe until there's a recession (probably major) in the U.S. or world economy.

If (or should I say when) theres a recession it will be global one. Our economics are so much more linked than they use to be. Of course this would have an impact, but doesnt mean you would make no revenue.

Things change pretty quick, changes in the law regarding online gambling had a major impact on my ppc advertising on my poker sites. My top clicks went from paying $'s to paying cents. My revenue dropped about 90%.

2 or 3 baskets and hard boiled eggs is the safest option.
